I'm a Cougar fan, but I think it is telling that BYU had so few defensive players make the All-MWC team. We know where we need to work next year. Offense did their job this year, but the lack of a defense cost us two very important games. Max Hall wouldn't have had to try so hard to make difficult plays in the Utah game if the defense had stopped the ball. Let's hope the recruiting class for next year is great for defense, great for offense, and that both can cut down on the penalties.

What? No 1st-Team cougars at DB? Even though our secondary held the Utes to only 300 yds passing? It's a conspiracy, I tell you!

Not to take anything away from Dennis Pitta, but Jerry Hughes was also a unanimous selection.

Remember that 8 of our defensive starters this year were underclassmen who were starters for the first time. I promise they will be much improved next year. Talent makes good football players, but experience makes better football players. 8 starters come back in 2009, with a season under their belt, and the whole off season to get better. I wouldn't say that there are super great athletes on that side of the ball, but they have learned to work well together as a unit, and they work HARD. For their lack of ability they make up for it in heart. They will be a very solid group next year, I don't know if they'll be quite like the 2007 defense, but they will still be very solid and certainly solid enough to help the team reach 13-0.

Yeah, except for the new offensive line. Okay, sure, the starters now are a 6-6, 326 average, but the up and comers are 6-5, 318 average. So if one inch and 8 pounds difference is that significant, then I guess our chances for 13-0 are shot.

Yeah, except for the new lineman filling the spots in. Matt Reynolds is a returning starter, and he has equal or greater talent than his brother. Tom Sorensen will be there to fill in at Center, and he received SEC honors playing at Vanderbilt his freshman year. There is also R.J. Willing, Jesse Taufi, and Terrance Brown. This isn't even counting the awesome two and three deep we have waiting in the wings. Nate "Big Rig" Hartung, a huge freshman is 6-2, 360 pounds! I've heard of very few lineman that huge on the college level. I don't know when he will play or if he's been on a mission or not, but he makes the future very promising for the O-lines at BYU. This years up and coming line averages 6-5, 318 pounds, as opposed to the 6-6, 326 pounds average that we had this year. We have a lot of very promising recruits coming in at the O-line spots and that has always been a focus. We have plenty of WR's, TE's, and RB's, now we just need good DB's and Linebackers and the 10+ win seasons will continue. Utah, however, can go back to being mediocre.

Babysteps. True, Zoobs are slow learners, but I DID see some progress in this pipe-dreamed-optimism. All s/he said was 13-0, not 13-0 and a National Championship.

It doesn't mean you should give up, it just means you need to keep trying even harder until you succeed.

The only people who will be embarrassed are the naysayers who keep saying it's impossible, and who are eventually proven wrong.

I have no problem with "Give me a break" telling me to understand that our defense was mainly underclassmen. I hope they are better, but I also want to know that our defense is as deep as our offense. I also hope they go 13-0. Nothing at all wrong with a quest for perfection. Personally, that is something to be proud of. Go Cougs! And, at the risk of being dumped on, Go Utes in your bowl game! I want the Utes to win as long as they aren't playing BYU. Just as I want the Aggies to win when they aren't playing BYU. Nothing wrong with Utah having a reputation as a sports powerhouse.

Hmmm, let's see who lead the Utes to a MWC Championship? Who helped them to a 12-0 season? Who ran the Utes 2 min offense with precision. Anyone else left in the conference? Nope. BJ was the only choice. Oh yea, he's leading Utah to a BCS Bowl game.
