Way to go Hawks! They said we couldn't do it without Shak. They said we couldn't do it without Rosenvall (nice to see him at the game by the way). They said close games against Davis and Jordan meant Bingham would roll us. They said we were overrated... Way to rise up and prove them wrong! Good job PROVING you deserve the trophy for the SECOND YEAR IN A ROW!

Way to go Hawks!!!! We knew you could do it!!

the rivalry between alta and bingham is a big one. both teams are great teams. but when you have kids like ammon olsen and parker webster, zach liston and skyler mayne on your offensive side. and defensively parker haus, ai hoching, (who plays with more heart than anyone i know) dan adams, brandon wise, beaver hoching, trey phillips, and zack bigelow, its almost impossible to beat a team with so much talent. but its not only the talent that got them through this game. its the love they have for each other. alta is the best school in the state. 4 state championships and counting. i'm proud of my friends that were out there on the field this friday night. i love everyone of them. Go Hawks.

Bingham played not to loose instead of to win in the final couple of possessions. Great teams have coaches that call plays that stick daggers in the hearts of their opponents in the end.
Alta's coaches called the plays to allow their kids the chance to win. And they did.
Olsen Fan | 1:14 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Ammon Olsen showed his amazing ability to keep focused when the Hawks needed it most! He gets the job done every time! And Alta's defense was incredible. Thanks for heart-stopping, feet-stamping incredibly fantastic game! WOW! Go Hawks!

Congratulations to both teams, you both played a great game. Alta you have exceptional kids, you never give up just like a true champion. We thought you were going to kill us after your first drive. Our two games against you were the toughest games we have had all year. We fought hard, your players wanted it more. Congratulations once again, see you next year.

WAY TO GO HAWKS!! THAT WAS AN INCREDIBLE COMEBACK!!
Jazzfan | 2:54 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
This was one of the most entertaining games to watch. Way to go Alta! Keeping focused on the prize really pulled through. Take it all in because high school goes quick and will be some of the best days of your lives. I do give props to Binghams crowd though, they were in it the whole game. Alta, instead of talking with your friends the whole time; get into the game a little bit. I promise this will make it so much more fun. I challenge Alta to make some noise in the upcoming basketball season!

I watched this game with no horse in the race and bingham should have won. Lack of discipline and lack of effort lost this game for bingham.

Way to go ALta!!! and way to go Ammon. WE were cheering you on all the way from VA!!!!

Seth Becerra is a freakin' stud, just like his dad! What a great game. Normally I would have liked Alta to go down in flames, but as soon as I saw Becerra making a contribution, I was an Alta fan. Great job guys!

really disappointed watching this game. overhyped matchup. offenses very mediocre, though Alta's QB is awesome.

sorry i'm a 5A fan, but TV really is the best team in state
sno bunni | 5:50 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Beaver HoChing was awesome! And a Hot body. Congrats alta maybe next time bingham.
Anonymous | 6:03 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Not to take anything away from Alta, they made the plays down the stretch. But some credit has to go to the refs. The "ghost" pass interference call was a horrible call and kept Alta's fourth quarter scoring drive going. If Bingham gets a stop on that drive, we have a different outcome.
DennyG | 6:06 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
I'm not exactly sure what Bingham Rules, maybe they have a good hot lunch program.
Congrats to the Hawks. Nice game......
Anonymous | 6:15 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
With Bingham up 17-6 and driving, Langi runs it down to the Alta 11 yard line (probably resulting in another TD for the Miners, making it 24-6). BUT the referees call not one, but two 15 yard penalties on Bingham. Instead of first and 10 at Alta's 11. Bingham is 2nd and 41 from around midfield. Sorry, Alta that was the play of the game.
Also, got help from the ref on Alta's sideline calling a TERRIBLE PI to keep Alta's scoring drive going. Don't like to see the stripes have that much impact on a game of this caliber.

Go blog somewhere else, where Bingham matters, and stay off our site! Bingham didn't rule last night, it was the men in BLACK who ruled!

The Hawks showed great heart last night in being down 17-6 in the ourth quarter, and then to pull off the win. Way to go Hawks!
Champ Day Fan | 7:04 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Congrats to Alta on the tough win. The defense should be the MVP. I know that the QB's always get the glory. Olsen did a good turn around but I think Hamilton was a little over zealous declaring him the best athlete in the state. Throughout the season I have seen that there are some QB's that would have worked even better with the Alta O-line. But it's good to recognize the winners. I just think that the coach failed to recognize the greatness of each player last night. I know that he has been trying to get his QB, which other than his strong arm is average at best, a legitimate offer. Great job to the rest of the team!!!

This was a great game to watch until the 4th quarter. With Bingham ready to extend their lead the refs decided to change the momentum of the game. Two personal foul calls on the same play totally changed the out come! After watching the replay several times I could see NOTHING that could be considered a personal foul that had anything to do with the play. The refs took 50 yards of field postion away. That was huge! Then two plays later after Alta gets the ball they call a phantom pass interference call! Even the announcers on TV said that it was a bad call! By then the momentum had totally changed! It is ashame that all the hard work and the out come of a game is totally change on a couple of calls. Hats of to Alta for taking advantage of the gifts that were given to them.
HSFB Fan | 7:34 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Congrats to Alta. Olsen best athlete in the state is a little too much. It was a huge stand by the D to shut down Miners. Defense wins Championships. A great O-line to keep em out when it really counted. The QB always gets the kudos but an honest coach would use a little tact when spreading the love.
Anonymous | 8:06 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
i still cant believe they lost! The reason alta came back is because of favorism by the dumb refs in the fourth it was ridiculous!!
jalmond What a shame! | 8:31 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Yes I am taking everything away from Alta's so called comeback, because the refs took everything away from Bingham. Everyone knows two facts about last night's game One: Bingham was clearly the better team!! Alta's unstoppable QB and offense had 6 points the entire game. I don't want to hear how Alta played some great game and Bingham's coaches lost the game, I didn't see any masterful game plan from Alta. Two: The refs took this game away from Bingham. THEY MADE A PHANTOM P.I. CALL THAT KEPT ALTA'S DRIVE ALIVE AND GAVE THEM A FRESH SET OF DOWNS TO MARCH DOWN THE FIELD. You give Alta another chance when they know they need two scores to tie or win and they will score, so don't tell me that call didn't change the outcome of the game. All the delusional fans will surely not accept any of this but I don't care. Here's why. I was standing near #27 at the end of the game and I saw the utter heartbreak and tears on his face thinking he committed a penalty that changed the outcome of the game, What a shame. Good job refs.
Anonymous | 8:38 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Alta has had some pretty dominant teams this year. Already four state championships, and it's only been one season. They must have a pretty special group of kids there right now.
OLDFOOTBALLFAN | 8:39 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Great season for both schools. What a classic matchup. Bingham was just out classed. If it wasn't for the 2, count them, 2 personal fouls you would have won the game. Maybe next year, a little more class and a little less pride will get you the title.
jalmond | 8:44 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
yeah ALTAFAN you proved it by scoring 14 points and the refs 7.
Bingham OC | 8:57 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
This loss is on John Lamborne, Bingham's OC. His play calling in the second half was ridiculous. Alta puts 9 in the box and he keeps running up the gut. He only tried to pass on third and long. He abandoned what has been working throughout the playoffs and went to his security blanket run offense.

Alta: send Lamborne a ring, he was your MVP.
jalmond | 9:04 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Hey refs! Here is the definition of Pass interference. You should know this. Defensive pass interference - a defensive player physically hinders an offensive player from catching a catchable forward pass that has not been touched by any other player. Not a pass thrown 5 yards behind the receiver and the defensive player in the general vicinity.
1st and 41 | 9:07 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
That's one way to make it close. Nice job uhsaa. You got your wish again. Bingham won't lose for two years now.
Mr Football | 9:12 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
5a MVP should go to Alta's Parker Webster who has two rings he has earned. He was a major player in both state games. Or Alta's defense who were fantastic.!!

Mr. Football should go to a 4A team this year, they have several D1 bound athletes. It would not be right to give it to Alta 3 years in a row. There are great athletes out side of 5A.
Anonymous | 9:13 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Worst game I've seen in any sport in my entire life.
Refs | 9:15 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Did the refs allow a 41 yard pass from Ammon Olsen to Parker Webster on the two yard line?

Did the refs blow coverage on a two point conversion play to get Alta within three?

Did the refs go three and out THREE consecutive times in the fourth quarter?

I was at this game. I AGREE with you. The refs were horrible. I was just as disconcerted regarding the double personal foul call, and just as suspect about the PI. Ridiculous.

But there were bad calls both ways. A few no calls on PI earlier in the game, and occasional holdings by the Bingham line that went uncalled. This was horrible officiating. I'm the first to concede that. Everyone saw it.

THAT BEING SAID

Anyone who is a football fan knows you can never blame the game on the referees. And no, I would not be on here complaining about them if Alta lost, although I'm sure if that were the outcome, and Alta fans were complaining, Bingham would tell them the same fundamental football truth.

You must play above the refs.

Eat some crow, and give credit where credit is due. Don't disrespect your team and blame the refs.
Lambourne still a Genius? | 9:17 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
We had this dicussion on a different thread and it looks like my prediction came true. I predicted Bingham fans would be on here complaining about the offensive playcalling after the loss, and what do you know.

Lambourne will always be compared to Tiger Woods caddie. As long as you don't drop the clubs in the lake Tiger will win. Well, Lambourne basically pulled out a Sand Wedge on the tee for his team when they needed a eagle on a par 5. He has done this time after time after time in big games.

I wonder if the blue and white sunglasses are off now.
Olsen? | 9:18 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Les give the whole team credit. Olsen good arm, some bad decisions average. Defense did the job and Bingham coming unravled in 4th, they need more disipline and better conditioning. They still were not working together as a team that is why they lost.
Anonymous | 9:22 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Regardless of the refs calls, Alta's D stood up in the fourth quarter and made at least two clutch back to back stops.

The refs didn't cause those.

Bingham could have just as easily stepped up and made a play.

Refs are a part of the game. Play above them. And yes, you did have opportunity to.

Just because your bitter about loss number three to Alta...
BinghamBlewIT | 9:29 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
17-6 in the forth. What more do you want?
Bingham blew it big time and their fans whine like little babies. Rediculous.
2009 Alta Fan | 9:30 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Is Alta going to reload or rebuild? How many Alta starters were Jrs or sophs? It clearly looks like Bingham will reload. Can someone comment?
bingam parent | 9:32 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
i despise Alta...but...get a grip bingham and those who comment and believe this alta win over bingham was due to the officials. calls go both ways and....

alta made big plays bingham didnt.
alta was less showboat more about team and more hungry
alta made adjustments bingham didnt
alta used more offensive weapons than two players
alta was more creative on offense
alta didnt lose their heads and composure
altas O line was better at pass protection
etc etc etc
the game is four quarters, a full four quarters, show some class bingham fans and kudos to alta for playing hard all four quarters and never giving up, never losing their heads and winning on the field.
watching young prep athletes strut like chickens during the game beginning in the first quarter is a tell tail sign of mouth not might.
bingham has as much if not more talent than any highschool in the state. more use of that talent, more class, more physical determination and a well deserved state title would be yours today.
if you think this game was decided by officials youve never played the game and or played it with heart.
jalmond | 9:34 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Let me take everyone back to 2007 when these two teams met in the semifinals. I just watched the video of that game. At another critical point in the fourth quarter Alta is driving and almost at the same spot on the field. Alta's QB rolls out to his right and Remington Peck breaks contain and heads full steam to him, the QB throws the ball and an interception that is returned to the 25 yard line of Alta. But Ahhhhh what happens the ref calls roughing the passer and keeps Alta's drive going. HMMMMM. After the ball leaves the QB's hand Peck only takes one step before laying him out, which is the rule. There's no head to head contact. Just another bad call against Bingham to afford Alta a win. Wonder if it was the same refs that year. HMMMMM.
RE: jalmond | 9:41 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Take off your worn out 1990 Hunter semifinal appearance sweatshirt and chill out. Bingham had every opportunity to win this game and they couldn't close the deal. Don't blame the refs.

I love how Bingham fans can't give any credit to their opponents. They were complaining that Jordan, Northridge and Skyline fans were not giving them their due because hart was injured, skyline couldn't punt it 10 yards etc etc. Then they turn around and do the exact same thing. You need to take your hat off to Alta for taking advantage of whatever they were given.
Football Fan | 9:41 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Congratulations to both Alta and Bigham for giving us all a great 5A Final. However, I think Timpview and Cottonwood would beat both of those schools. I firmly believe that the two best teams in the state of Utah this year were both in the 4A final yesterday.
Re: Jailmond | 9:43 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Lets see three straight losses.!!!!

WA WA WA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a poor sport.
Next Year | 9:52 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
This Coach Hamilton is an amazing guy, look what he has done in 4 years. You know he will re-load like he does every year. Alta is very fortunate to have coaches like the ones at Alta. It has been great to see Les grow and develop into a fine coach. He is very committed to the players and has given them memories of a life time. I am very grateful for him, just hope some college doesn't snag him.
Anonymous | 9:56 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
Yes, the PI call and the personal foul calls causing Bingham 50 yards changed momentum for those drives. However, the game was not won or lost by the refs. The defense continued to stop Bingham's rushing game, averaging only two yards per carry. When your game is not working change the plays.
Offensive play calling was not good for both teams. Alta played the same exact pass play four times in a row, each of which ended with very little yardage. The difference, Alta never played that play again.
Alta's defense knew what Bingham was doing and they stopped them. Hats off to Coach Halbert and the defense. We should all be worried Halbert is going to leave to take a head coaching position somewhere. He has been a fantastic defensive coordinator to help win these past two years.
To: Jalmond @ 9:34 | 10:00 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
If you were watching that game closely, you would notice that on that punt return, the Bingham guy that ran it back stepped out of bounds on that play. It was not called.

Get over it. You lost. That should have been Alta's 4 peat but too many mental mistakes killed that.

Kicking off to Hague in 2005
Missed extra pts in 2006 and delay of game at the end.

But back 2 back is sweet.
Bring It On | 10:09 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
To all those 4a people who really think Timpview and Cottonwood could beat alta or bingham bring it on we will play you anytime if you were man enough to schedule us. We will play you anytime
page | 10:12 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
is anyone recruiting the Alta QB.He is big can run and has a rocket of a arm. WSU or SUU anyone. Utah should look at him he can play.Utah State. Not BYU to athletic for you.
Insider | 10:23 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
I know a few of the coaches for Alta and they ask Timpview every year to play them. Timpview will not. I am not going to make any accusations about why Timpview is afraid to play Alta but until Timpview can agree to a game it will always be a question of who is better.
Miner Fan! | 10:25 a.m. Nov. 22, 2008
There are great players and coaches on both teams. Congratulations to all of them for getting to the big game and making it a fun one. A lot of players in Utah would have liked to have been there, but could only watch.

Obviously a lot of fans understand officiating better than the officials so broaden your horizons and get a new low paying, high intensity, thankless, part time job.

Whine and do something about things you can change and grow up about what is past. It will be an amazing day when losing doesn't bring out the immature to comment. I’ll bet tomorrow the whiners will be out in force for whatever side loses today’s red and blue contest and you can bet they will claim officials made mistakes.

You were the last men standing - great job Hawks!

PS for "Worst game Anonymous." You have had a short life, haven't watched many games or watched a different game than everyone else is talking about.
