Utah no longer the reddest state?
Wanna bet?
Just look at the "issues" that are important to these people.
Redder than Red China Utah is.

It looks as if Utah is following national trends. The Republican party is, more and more, becoming a party of white people who live in small towns and rural areas. Not a formula for sucess in today's America.
"What did we learn.........." | 7:33 a.m. Nov. 14, 2008
I wonder what did we learn from the previous election.

Utah returned the Bush/Cheney team back to DC with the highest approval rating in the nation.

Have these thoughts changed in regard to their current support and if so by how much?

I would like to see a current poll that measures the approval rating here in Utah with the Bush/Cheney experience.

I feel that it would show that many would feel that their support in the previous election was misguided.

What do you think?

So, Roland, does that mean the Democrats are becoming the party of minority people who live in big cities?

Or does my statement make you suddenly uneasy about painting with such a broad brush?

One thing we've learned is that James Evans needs to go as Republican party chair. His efforts to gain media attention and public support invariably backfire. Case in point: Comments that the ethics hearings on Rep. Hughes were politically motivated.

While political motivations undoubtedly played a role, it is clear the public feels ethics issues in the Utah legislature need to be addressed. Public comments by the party chair derisive of the ethical charges suggest the Republican party doesn't care and has no interest in upgrading ethical standards.

The better instinct, Mr. Evans, would have been "No comment."

Shoot! I was hoping I could get in early enough to celebrate that we no longer have to put up with 'Anonymous' daily tauntings of "Utah is the Redest state", but he's already been here and he's already at it again.

I wish I understood this Californian's obsession with Utah.
Great | 9:04 a.m. Nov. 14, 2008
Great, if this is the case. A state without a two party system will fail. We must get rid of the current top leadership in Utah County Republician party. The good old boys reign supreme in Utah County.

The Utah County Leadership thinks that the party has NO problem. If one lingers in a stinky room long enough, they begin not to notice the stink. Well, there are a few "stinkers" in the Utah County Party top leadership and they don't realize that THEY STINK. They reek of the Good Ol Boy's club even if they are women and men.

Marian Monnahan, Susie Bramble, and Mark Cluff all need to be outst. They represent the stink of "good ol boys". If you elect Cluff, you get the same delivery in leadership. Do not elect Mrs. Bramble (that title should say enough) or Mrs. Monnanhan. They need to go. Find some new leadership going in a different, a less power hungry way.

Great | 9:04 a.m.

Sooo, if you are so against one party leadership (classic Democrat whining point in Utah) are you complaining and equally upset and calling or change now that the national government is being completely controled by ONE PARTY (The Democrats)?

NO, it's just when Republicans have a majority that you complain. And little old Utah having too many Republicans is a WAY bigger issue than all branches of the the Federal government being controled by ONE PARTY.

Democrats will never be happy until EVERY STATE and every branch of the Federal Government are completely controled with a question-proof majority of DEMOCRATS. That's the only solution they find acceptable.
The reddest state | 11:20 a.m. Nov. 14, 2008
Utah no longer the reddest state?
You've gotta be kidding.

An over-abundance of RED-necks
A theocratic government that rivals RED governments
And now a humiliating defeat last Tuesday that has left Utah RED-faced.

Congratulations Utah. Reddest state it is.
re: "too late" 9:02 | 11:29 a.m. Nov. 14, 2008
This poor neocon sap thinks getting up at 9:02 is "early enough" to post his opposition to a political rival on this subject
Is any wonder last Tuesday produced a landslide victory for the Democrats?
Neocons (aka REDS)are always in dreamland while the rest of the country is trying to change things for the better.
LOL!

I get the biggest kick out of posters like 9:02 who because a post is poking a bit of fun at Utah and their peculiar culture, he/she automatically assumes it's originating from somewhere in The Golden State.
Got news for you pal, the locals are wise to the non-stop far-right nonsense in the Beehive State, aren't going to go away, nor are they going to be silenced.
Let's get it on!

Utah was red like Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, Kentucky Oklahoma and other states Utah share much commonalities with.
Re "not going away | 11:44 a.m." | 1:02 p.m. Nov. 14, 2008
I wasn't "assuming" Anonymous is from the golden state. He brags incesantly about being from the much superior, highly enlightened, full of telerance (recent protests, threats, boycots and vandalism excluded) golden state.

I'm not guessing. He uses the Anonymous moniker, but we all know who he is. He has an unmistakable costic style.

Aren't the neoconservatives (REDS) a stitch?
The joker at posting 1:02 is trying to tell us how nice and gentle they are in these formats and other forms of communication.
LOL!
Next he'll try to talk us into believing Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity are as sweet as the late Mr. Rogers.
LOL!

I have no problem having things in common with the states you mentioned above.

Is having commonalities with "Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, Kentucky Oklahoma and other states" supposed to be a BAD thing in your eyes?

I know you think you're far superior to anyone in these states, but we can't all be as superior, intelectual and live-and-let-live as you and most California residents are. Guess we're just not as cool as you.

I've noticed for a guy who always brags about his "Live-and-let-live" philosophy... You always seem to be telling others (mostly Utahns, Mormons, Republicans, etc) how to live, and berating and condemning them for not being up to your standards. How does that mesh with your supposed live-and-let-live philosophy?

Is that philosophy and latitude only reserved for people who are more liberal than you?

What happens to this tolerant nature when you encounter a person with a more Conservative point of view? It seems to totally disapear. Weird isn't it?
Roland Kayser | 5:54 p.m. Nov. 14, 2008
To Karl: The Democratic party is indeed the party of minorities who live in urban areas, and also of whites who live in urban areas. I realize that a broad brush statement like that leaves out many, many people, but it does represent a statistical truth.
Stewart | 7:37 p.m. Nov. 14, 2008
Gov. Huntsman should have gotten percentages closer to that of Saddam considering his competition was only Bob Springmeyer, and the colorful "Super" Dell Shanze. Bob Springmeyer was the only repository for Democratic votes, which didn't give them much of a choice. Then there were the 23,000 Utahns that couldn't bring themselves to vote for the democrat Springmeyer or Huntsman and were forced to vote for Super Dell.

So, if Bob Bernick was impressed with Huntsman's 75%, I think he should have been more concerned with the 23,000 that would rather vote for someone like Super Dell as a protest vote.
