McCain goes down in flames. I felt bad for the guy.

McCain got off to strong start, but Obama had taken the advantage by the end. I know this may not matter outside of neocon Utah, but McCain's comments about abortion are really going to hurt him with moderates.
He needed a game changer and didn't get one. Obama wins.

McCain just lost all respect that I tried to keep for him.
He attacked and lied, and looked foolish doing it.
Obama seemed to take the high high road and change the topic back to something that matters.
McCain, you are going to lose, please be a gentleman and don't listen to the embarrassment of Utah "Karl Rove".
He will destroy your rep. Just ask Bush.

"One hundred percent, John, of your ads, 100 percent of them have been negative,"
To Obama they are negative because they are true. Most of McCain's past ads were pure informational; only his most recent ones are pointed. I'm saddened that the media has not really looked into anything relevant regarding Senator Obama. They have barely questioned him in detail, nor have they journalistically inquired into much of anything. His record is very apparent, but has not been discussed. His REAL experience is minimal but his rhetoric (i.e., propaganda) is Supreme. His alliances are troubling as well.

After the debate, CBS interviewed Joe the plumber.
Joe the plumber said John McCain had the the best policy's to help him get through these tough economic times.
Joe tried to say more about McCain and his policy's, but CBS cut him off and told him they were out of time and we could view it on their web cast.
CBS would never bias this debate would they?
/Sheeeesh!

Senator McCain never had a chance in a debate with Senator Obama. Senator Obama has the advantage in educational achievement, oratory, and constructing arguments. Unfortunately, Senator McCain lacks the ability to answer Senator Obama's points. Rather Senator McCain reiterates the his disproven points without addressing the criticism nor adding additional support to his talking points.

I will FOREVER BE THANKFUL TO JOHN MCCAIN FOR HIS SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY.
I WILL NEVER VOTE FOR A TEETH-GRINDING, ANGRY, ERRATIC, WHINNING, BORDERING ON FULL BLOWN GASKET
REPUBLICAN.
By the way, if MCCAIN is not a REPUBLICAN, he should return every penny he has received as the REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE. It is simply DISHONEST to ACCEPT MONEY ON FALSE PRETENSE.

Just went over to CBS News' site and couldn't find anything about what Joe the Plumber supposedly told them, but the Associated Press just talked to him and he didn't tell them who he plans to vote for.
Meanwhile, CNN, CBS, and Fox (Yes, Fox) are all declaring Obama the winner.

John McCain did okay in the debate. Maybe though, he should have had Sarah Palin debate Obama. I think she would have spanked him hard, same way she did Biden.

Why isn't Sarah running for president?

i don't think the answer is in the amount of "experience" any of the four have ... doing the wrong thing for many years should not qualify anyone for the presidency ... the main challenges of the job boil down to the ability for complex thought and the wisdom to act correctly ... a sense of history is very important, but the biggest tests come out of nowhere and may not even resemble anything in the past ... what has happened is not always a good indicator of what the future holds ... whoever is in that oval office, and i say it should be obama, has got to be able to think clearly and quickly and do what needs to be done.

Man, oh man! I'm very concerned for our country and constitution! It seems we have a political revolution towards secret combination's regarding our own freedoms! Obama's uncanny deception will injure our country! At least McCain has endorsed Mitt Romney! He truly can and will save our American economy over anyone! This election depends upon smart judgment, not an under-educated society! We must wake up to what's happening to our freedoms before we could be at a terrible loss! We must not be blinded by deception!
Sarah | 9:51 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
Obama has clearly won every debate and, more importantly, has demonstrated that he has the best judgment, ability, and skill to lead our country.
The fact that John McCain chose Sarah Palin for his running mate reveals his poor judgment and inability to make wise decisions. Sarah Palin lacks fundamental understanding of economics, national and international politics.
Although I celebrate John McCain's amazing service to our country, Barak Obama has also done much to serve his country while working with the poor and disadvantaged in the south side of Chicago.
One of the fundamental differences between the two candidates is: who will represent the rich and who will represent ALL Americans?
If you want a country and benefits only the rich and continues the failed economic policies of the last eight years--including tax cuts for the extremely wealthy--then vote for John McCain. If you care about the lives of all Americans--including the middle class, the poor, and the rich, then Obama is the better candidate.

f. wants to give tax cuts to people that don't pay taxes... he DOES NOT UNDERSTAND THE TAX SYSTEM, WHY WOULD I VOTE FOR SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T UNDERSTAND THE SYSTEM?
g. wants to give the money you and I make to someone else.... to everyone else
h. who can show no proof that he is a citizen of the US and is qualified to be president///\

Obama Is A Well Spoken Socialist | 9:53 p.m. Oct. 15, 2008
John McCain is by no means my ideal choice in terms of a truly constitutionally conservative candidate but I will vote for him as a referendum on Obama. I (and the founders of this great nation) reject every aspect and principal of the Marxist, socialist ideal that the far left, Obama included, is desperately trying to shove down this country’s throat. I don't want government taking my money so they can "spread it around". I earned it and I will choose how, when and with whom I will share it!!! This is not the proper role of government!
If you are an Obama supporter, you should ask yourself a question; Do you believe in Obama because he sounds good, or do you love his socialism?? Be careful, because you won't get one without the other.
Socialism cripples every economy in which it is tried and its most assertive forms gave us such disasters as the Soviet Union and Cuba. Wealth re-distribution is the birth-child of this economic principal and Obama/Democrat policies are intended to take this country decisively in that direction.

Where have you been hiding the past few weeks? The Bush administration has just undertaken the most comprehensive socialization that this country has ever seen. Even that "paragon" of capitalism, Donald Trump, says that "this is socialism, but I guess I like it." (Check his interview on CNBC.) Or do you have no problem when Republicans socialize losses, take from all people and give to the rich?

Obama has rock-star appeal for all of the celebrity-worshipping masses. If he wins, the next four years well be a tough education for those who swallowed the hype and media bias versus substance. It'll be Carter Malaise all over again, if not worse.
FACT: Taxes on businesses go straight through the consumer. It's the most regressive form of taxation there is.
FACT: Appeasement of aggressors has never worked and never will. History has proven this over and over again. Who do you think our enemies are hoping will be the next president?
FACT: The current financial crisis is a direct result of Democratic policies overriding the free market to encourage homeownership at all costs. The right answer is to let the free market work so that more people can actually afford good housing.
FACT: Illegal immigration is only a problem because it's illegal. A guest-worker program with a path to citizenship is the answer. Immigrants come here because there's work. It's a global economy, and protectionism in any form is doomed to failure.
FACT: Both major political parties are somewhat corrupt. Democrats love big goverment. Republicans love big business. Deal with it.
I'm sick of the horse-race media coverage.

Dear Republicans:
I know that you're getting frantic with only 20 days left until the election and your candidate several points behind in the polls. And I know that tonight's debate didn't give you much confidence. Believe me, as someone who had to gulp hard to show much enthusiasm for Kerry in 2004, I know exactly how you feel.
But seriously. Your hysteria does nothing to convince anyone to adopt your position. It only serves to diminish your credibility and make you seem extremist. If you can't see what 53% of the people in this country see in Obama, fine. Disagree with them. But stop insulting us, insisting that we've "drunk the kool-aid," and assuming that our reasons for supporting our candidate are any less legitimate than your reasons for supporting yours.
Please. Step away, slowly, from the all-caps key, and put away your exclamation points.

The John McCain that the Republican party repudiated in 2000 could have won this election. The John McCain of 2008 lost it, in pretty much every sense of that phrase.
Barack Obama will be elected President on November 4th. And he'll have the most lopsided Democratic majority in both houses of Congress since the very early 80s. If that frightens you, listen to the words of your fellow Utahns, who so often say "If you don't like it, leave!" There are places in the world that embrace the policies that McCain wants to continue - for the truly wealthy, there's Dubai and Yemen. For the less wealthy, there's Singapore and Libya, or even John McCain's apparent favorite, Colombia. None allow abortion, and all conduct plenty of wiretaps and other surveillance!

Yes, I said Obama is a Socialist! No I have not been hiding for two weeks! This economic bailout plan disgusts me to very core. Notice I stated that McCain is not a "Constitutional Conservative"! I am voting for the lesser of two evils.
McCain = A slow bleed, socialism is SOMEWHAT SHELVED while we finish a war and hopefully prepare to elect a much better candidate in 2012..
Obama = Socialism on the fast track! Wealth redistribution is increased an hundred fold and America loses its greatest strength, Capitalism (even in its current diminished form) and the hard work of self supporting, entrepreneurial Americans.
Both parties are culpable in this current financial mess; The Democrats, for their brazen socialist agenda and the Republicans for allowing it and sometimes supporting it for the sake of cowardly bi-partisanship.

"wants to give tax cuts to people that don't pay taxes."
This person believes you can subtract from zero and get a positive number as your result? Utah has a dismal education system.
When, I was a kid in Utah the taxes tax rate was 3.5% Why do I recall this number? Because even at eight, I paid taxes.

I think it's pretty funny to see Republicans frantically crying "Socialism!" and "Class warfare!" regarding Obama's tax increases on the wealthiest Americans. His plan would simply return tax rates for the rich to the same level they were at under Ronald Reagan.
Republicans also seem to forget that initially Bush II said his tax cuts were a temporary economic revitalization measure. And John McCain called those tax cuts for the rich "shameful."
He doesn't consider them shameful any more, of course, because he has none left.

I much prefer McCain as a person to Bush, and think he might have avoided, as president, some of the ghastly problems that are upon us now. The True meaning of insanity is doing the same thing day after day and expecting different results.
It is Time for a change since we are not getting results and have strayed off course. Time for the pendulum to swing to the Democrat side for President.
Yes it may be a big swing to the left but the republicans have swung way to far to the right that they may have lost focus on whats right. (Oil companies back the republicans - reason why Palin is vice president nominee is to open up oil in alaska more for the oil companies to continue to rake it in).
Obama has Oprah support and she has better ethics then anyone in big oil.
When the oil companies use their profits to make life better for others like Oprah does, I will vote for the republicans. Ex-Republican.

The "New Deal" gave us the current tax structure requiring the wealthiest Americans to pay the lions' share. That was supposed to be temporary as well.
The top 25% of American wage earners pay 86% of the federal income tax!!
The top 50% of wage earners pay 97% of the federal income tax!!!!!!!!!!!!
These are numbers straight from the IRS!
If you think that Bush’s tax cuts were destructive, then the liberal icon John F. Kennedy is also guilty of this egregious error.
FACT: Tax cuts (for everyone, not just the “middle class”) spur economic growth!
FACT: Tax cuts always increase federal tax revenues.
If Obama intends to increase federal revenue to pay for his massive socialist programs, he should cut income taxes. But, instead he will pretend that he can cut taxes for 95% of all Americans when only 75% actually pay them. He will also let the Bush tax cuts expire. Even if you were in the lowest bracket, you got a 5% cut in 2001. Kiss that goodbye and watch Obama give you 1-2%. Do the math, that’s a tax increase!

RE: Grimble @ 11:07:
Your post simply further demonstrates how wide the income gap has become in this country. Workers get more efficient and productive but don't get paid for it, their productivity just lines the pockets of executives. The fact that 25% of earners pay 86% of the total dollar amount of tax revenue simply speaks to the outrageously wide gap between rich and poor in this country.
Also, despite the false confidence suggested by your impressive use of all caps, your FACTS, well, aren't. Consider this:
--During the Reagan administration, after Reagan's tax cuts in 1980, the economy, as measured by GDP, grew 3.5% per year.
--During Bush II's administration, after his tax cuts in 2001, the economy grew 2.1% per year.
--During the Clinton administration, after Clinton's tax _increases_ in 1993, the economy grew 3.9% a year.
Huh. So the seven years after Clinton raised taxes enjoyed MORE economic growth than we saw in either the Reagan or Bush II administrations.
And of course, for most Americans the verdict is in on trickle-down economics already in much more direct everyday ways than these statistics. We've done it for eight years. It has failed miserably.

The Rich pay the least taxes because of the loopholes in the legal setup of legal entities. They can expense almost everything off and invest in tax credit investments. They can pipe the profits to a nonprofit charity that they control and can setup the companies so they dont legally own them but have control them (reducing personal risk). Once they are in a non profit charity, they can pay themselves a salary.
They can also structure their legal entity so that even if someone sues them and wins, the result would be worse than if the person who sued them lost. Companies are structured so if they go broke, the shareholder is the last one to get paid if there is anything left. Which there isnt.
Wall Street firms (Investment firms and bankers) have spent their clients money (including 401k and ira money). A noted suggestion from Obama is to allow those with 401k and Ira accounts to withdraw at least 10000 dollars from them now to help pay for expenses in the recession without having to wait till their 70.
This has Wall street mad because they may not have the money to pay this out.
