Drug testing should go farther and not just apply to coal miners. And it should include alcohol use on the job. Drug and alcohol use by workers in every job has become a problem, even among government workers. Some fear it because they are using drugs or alcohol they are the ones fearing testing the most. When on the job, I have just as much right to know my co-workers are of sound and sane minds not being affected by drugs or alcohol. Their use endangers my life and working conditions and I deserve a safe working enviornment. Most objectors to drug testing are drug users and I have the right to object to working besides a drugged employee or management. Every job should require drug testing at random and upon initial employment, even among managment and owners of a business. Testing is a benefit to business owners by keeping down injuries, lost time accidents, and reliable workers, and fewer mistakes in production and manufacturing. There is no such thing as a safe drug, prescription or off the street. DUI laws in many states attest to the fact that drug use is hazardous although it is not prosecuted.

While I agree with the comments of Bob G. I fear that if drug testing is enforced in the physical labour workplaces there will be no workforce.
