I don't see what's wrong with two birthday parties.

With two parties, there's no comparing gifts, and each set of grandparents gets to spend all the time they want with the child, with no pressure. Better to do that than to have all that tension on what should be a happy day.

A one year old? The party is obviously for the parents, so whatever they decide to do, the child won't care. I agree, have two parties.
