unless you live in one of the giant homes on the east side in bountiful -- then you spend too much time managing your fleet of large cars to worry about recycling.

A couple of ways the reporting of this article could have been improved:

1) Check out the "survey" that supposedly had 58% of Bountiful residents against recycling. It was a slanted question put out by the council members who opposed curbside recycling. You can get any answer you want if you phrase it right.

2) The original decision for opt-in was met by "applause" by a few in attendance and groans of disapproval by about 200 supporters of recycling.

3) As for public involvement in this decision, it was covered in a series of well-attended council meetings over more than a year.

Bottom line this was a great decision by the city. It's inexpensive, it extends the life of the landfill and it's the responsible thing to do.

Understand who Novak is. He is a Ron Mortensen clone who uses an official sounding named organization with 15-20 members to slop out his distorted version of reality. Mr. Novak's actions and accusations are neither ethical nor accountable. The problem with Novak is that he knows he is wrong and spouts his half-truths anyway. He knows the process Bountiful used to approve recycling was valid but insists that it lacked a public hearing. I attended four meeting on recycling presided over by the city and citizen input was heard at two of them. The mayor allowed any residents to speak and didn't close the hearing until the last person had his say. Mr. Novak needs to stop blaming the city for his lack of initiative to file an "application" for petition until a week before the signed petition needed to be filed. Prior planning prevents piss pour performance. On another note, I'm sure North Salt Lake Councilwoman and lawyer Lisa Watts Baskin doesn't appreciate Mr. Novak quoting her as not agreeing with a Utah Supreme Court ruling on the 45-day deadline.
