Pick a place for you "party" already. Personally I don't care what your name is or what your logo looks like. How about you just get busy doing your jobs!
Bad Idea | 8:01 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Of course it's a terrible idea. Doesn't anybody remember how much public outcry the old school board received because there was rumor they were going to forfeit education dollars to the stadium? Why would you have it there anyway? It should be at a school.

How about Stupidity United
Or Cullimore District
Or Aren't We Wonderful

Yep, it's true | 9:09 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
It is true that some of us would boycott the soccer stadium. I'm a former RSL season ticket purchaser, but I am so irritated by the Greg Curtis - Tom Dolan backdoor dealings that you could not drag me to that stadium under any circumstances. If a party is really a worthy project, pick something that isn't salt in the wound for many of us.
New Name | 9:16 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Make it easy and name it the Real School District. That should please Mayor Dolan and his community.
Get to Work | 9:28 a.m. Sept. 4, 2008
Name your District. Have your party. Do all the celebrating you like (Yey! We split up an excellent 100 year old institution! Whahoo!), but please begin to focus soon on things that really matter. Here's my list of priorities: (1) Reduce class size; (2) Increase teacher pay; (3) Streamline administration; and (if the sky's the limit) (4) Build and maintain facilities.

I will never support Real after all this

Let's see.... They've hired an inexperienced superintendent, patted themselves on the back, voted themselves a raise for all their hard work and now they are thinking of where to hold a celebration. When will the education of kids and the welfare of their teachers and administrators be addressed? Mayor Dolan would probably love to host the event as he can now manipulate his Board of Ed. into diverting tax dollars for education to his own pet projects. I can't wait for the next election.

This would be a fitting place for the new School District to have their big send off party. Greg Curtis, Tom Dolan, and Walker, Cullimore can all show up with the new hand picked School Board. This would be a perfect backdrop for all the back room deals and undemocratic political decisons that led to the development of both the soccer stadium and the New East Jordan District. These politicans should all be held accountable for these two disasterous decisons. Mayor Carron was take out of the loop on both of these projects. He was elected to represent the people of the County. Curtis and his GOP buddies basically disinfranchsed the people of Salt Lake County in the politics of buildilng the soccer stadium and the new School Distrct. So enjoy your new soccer stadium and school district with back room picked board members and superintendent. I'm going to celebrate by monving my two childern to Granite District. Lets vote these guys out in November. Vote for Seegmiller and bring about good open government.

What a hoot!!! The whole idea of splitting Jordan School District was a horrible decision. I remember reading that the Board wanted a $6 million tax increase. Now they want a party. STUPID STUPID STUPID. Can we vote again?
Steve - RSL controv. not reason | 1:34 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
The RSL stadium "controversy" isn't the reason the the party shouldn't be held there. As was pointed out in the article, what if only 100 people showed up? A tiny crowd in a big stadium? Doesn't look great. The South Towne Expo Center is probably the best place to hold it. That or at High School in the new District's boundries.

Here's a thought. Instead of throwing a huge bash to pat yourselves on the back, how about getting to work identifying the needs of your new school district. What better place to do that than in a school? Even better, how about identifying the school that needs the most work?

Of course, since the new district is the ultimate example of a lack of community cooperation, the Real Stadium is a fitting location.

I am grateful we have an excellent principal at Draper Elementary. She has not allowed any of this "hoopla" about a new district to affect my son's learning in the 3rd grade. I am sure the principal and his teacher are nervous about a school board that seems most interested in where they are going to throw a party, but (again) gratefully they are nonetheless able to focus on my son's education. Maybe the new School Board should take a lesson from them.

Mr. Hamiliton hit this issue right on the head. Vote all these bums out. This soccer stadium and district split are the worst political decisions since Norm's pumps in the West Desert. Let's bring Olene Walker back to clean up the mess of these back room dealing politicians. Because of issues like these I'm ashamed to be a Utahan for the first time in my life!!! Vote Democratic this fall.

Wasn't splitting the district controversial? So maybe they should just abandon that idea if they really want to avoid controversy
Idiots | 9:54 p.m. Sept. 4, 2008
What a waste of time and tax dollars. Pick a place and shut up.
Mike | 1:02 p.m. Sept. 5, 2008
This is pretty ridiculous. The RSL stadium may have been controversial, but so was the split. Just have it at the stadium. If people are offended, they can just get over it. People can be such crybabies.
