The Supai village residents know the digns of a flood. I've been thre several times and talked with them. They showed me the ledges behind their homes where they have had to sit out other floods.
The media made more out of this, like they do EVERTHING today, then it required.
Last year the camp supervisors came down and told the groups that they had 15 minmutes to gather their gear and get above the camp area. They weren't kidding.
