"McCain has gambled the White House on Palin."

And what does that say about McCain's judgment? What else is he willing to take a risk on?

McCain has gambled our futures and our children's on Palin. Given his age and his medical history, the most important decision he makes is his vice-presidential candidate. Palin is bright, quick, and capable but has absolutely no experience in any foreign affairs or in her understanding of urban America (where MOST people in our country live). Can anyone seriously see her as prepared to face Putin or Wen Jiaboa? Both of those leaders have scoffed at Bush's simplistic mind behind his back. Can you imagine what they will do to her?
McCain met her once. They did NO VETTING and as a result her poor daughter is now the butt of late-night TV. Now, because of Palin's lack of judgment as well..her daughter will become the butt of jokes for late-night TV talk shows. Unlike Mr. Obama (who is not a perfect candidate), he was nominated and selected and vetted by literally MILLIONS of Americans. He has exceptional intelligence, a superior education (that he earned), and national experience in the Senate. Sarah Palin was chosen by one man who only met her once and spoke on the phone. McCAIN shows him impulsivity. They will not win.

Let's see "Palin is bright, quick, and capable but has absolutely no experience in any foreign affairs."

You might say that about BHO. What experience does he have?

As to her understanding of "Urban America (where MOST people in our country live)," maybe that is a good thing. People from the Urban areas sometimes cannot see the forest for the smog.
Not Romney | 9:11 a.m. Sept. 2, 2008
Betting your future on someone you obviously did not vet is extremely reckless. It is good to remember that before Al Gore and John Kerry lost winnable elections to the current president John McCain lost a winnable primary to W. He is not a politician who can succeed in a multi-state election.

Well, I'll say this.
She's a better candidate than Romney.
Pure enjoyment | 10:16 a.m. Sept. 2, 2008
I am thoroughly enjoying the excitement Gov Palin has brough to the presidential race. It is most amusing that she is being compared to Obama rather than Biden. Palin is the most refreshing entry into the stale McCain-Obama-Biden quagmire. I have greater faith and trust in someone from Alaska educated in Idaho than anyone I've ever seen or heard from Illinois or Deleware educated on the east coast. McCain made a great choice! They get my vote!

What makes people think that having foreign relations experience is crucial to being VP.
Madyln Albright, Pres. Clinton's Secretary of State, was supposedly such a highly qualified foreign policy expert. Her great achievement, in her own words, was "eight years of talks with the North Koreans." Meanwhile, the North Koreans were developing nuclear weapons with fuel provided by two nuclear reactors provided by the U.S. I'd rather have an inexperienced person who has some common sense from Alaska dealing with our adversaries.

TO ANONYMOUS. HOW MAY I ASK IS SARAH A BETTER CANDIDATE THAN ROMNEY? AT LEAST ROMNEY HAS A BUSINESS SENSE. WHICH OUR TREMENDOUSLY DEFICITED COUNTRY NOW HAS BECAUSE OF OUR CURRENT ADMININSTRATION. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT NO ONE CARES ABOUT THE FINANCIAL STABILITY OF AMERICA. I DON'T LIKE ROMNEY EITHER BUT HE IS BETTER THAN SARAH. SARAH CANNOT CARRY HILARIES BRIEFCASE AND AMERICA MISSED THE BOAT.

More sour grapes from the Deseret News and the Romneyites who view Mitt Romney as some kind of mythical figure.
re: 10:25 | 12:17 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
Ms. Palin is overwhelmingly a better choice than the same ol' same ol, Cheney/Bush group of lunatics.

America at large is hungry for change. America is sinking like a stone.

Maybe a woman can slap some sense into the group that is ruining our country while they get wealthier.

Naive judgment! Look at the result of where her abstinence-only education approach lead to in her own family.
Alaskans are tough | 12:45 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
Some people worry about Palin and Putin (as if McCain won't be there). Gov. Palin recently asked this question, "What's the difference between a pit bull and a hockey mom? Lipstick." She's taken on her own party in Alaska. I've got more confidence in her being able to stand up to the bullies of the world than I do with the "lets be nice and hold hands while we sing together" crowd. The left will try to destroy her, because that is what they try to do - and I'll bet she ends up giving more than she takes.

Nothing is more amusing than watching the nasty Limbaughites squirm.
Couldn't have happened to a nicer group of people.

America deserves to have this person as president. We are soooooo doomed.
:-) The world isn't Utah | 2:10 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
Ms. Palin is a better choice than Mitt. She will pull the Christian right together and not offend Mormons. She is a much better choice than Mitt. She come's off with appeal to the blue color conservative living in a double wide. Mitt was Utah's mist plastic fantastic. Yuk!

The Democrats say, "Issues? What are issues?" as they throw mud. That's fine. Sarah Palin is uniquely qualified to be Vice President of the United States, and very possibly, the first female President of the United States.

She has shown that she stands for something. Did anyone catch that? She stands for something. She is forthright and honest in her approach to questions. She states her opinion and her life shows that she means what she says. What a totally refreshing thing to do.

As much as I cheered for Mitt Romney, his constant desire to say what the people wanted to hear, convinced me that he needed more seasoning.

Sarah Palin stands for the principles that made America great, and if followed, will make America great again.

No matter what the liberals say, it is not the conservatives who are squirming. The Democrats are beside themselves, knowing that Sarah Palin is a real American and a real leader, not a pseudo-leader like the other three candidates.

There is probably nothing that Mr. McCain could have done that would have better served American than to choose Sarah Palin.

If you are so pro women, why didn't you wake up and smell the roses when you had a intelligent, caring experienced women running. You republicans will jump on ANY band wagon. Hilary Clinton was more qualified than any of the candidates that are now left to hopefully on a prayer run our country.
not enough vetting | 3:44 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
The wolves are out now. People may say "darned Democrats", but there are a lot of independent bloggers that just LOVE a challenge like Sarah Palin. "Dig up dirt? We're on it!" The teen pregnancy is only the first thing. There WILL be more!

Who knows?
Maybe she'll be a breath of fresh air.
Anyone is better than Mitt ("God hasn't spoken to God since Moses") Romney.
One question | 4:01 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
Does anyone know more about Palin belonging to a group that advocated Alaska seceding from the Union?
Hey Mike | 4:37 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
Speaking of mud... Remember the Rev Wright thing, or how about the trumped up Ayers isssue, oh! how about the time Obama flushed his flag pin down the toilet, or the rediculous pledge of allegence crap. Did I ever mention that I was in POW camp for 5 1/2 years, oh! sorry that was McBush, I've heard it so often I started to think I was there myself. Silly me......
Fiscal conservative? | 5:48 p.m. Sept. 2, 2008
During her 6 years as Mayor, she increased general government expenditures by over 33%. During those same 6 years the amount of taxes collected by the City increased by 38%. This was during a period of low inflation (1996-2002). She reduced progressive property taxes and increased a regressive sales tax which taxed even food. The tax cuts that she promoted benefited large corporate property owners way more than they benefited residents.

The huge increases in tax revenues during her mayoral administration weren't enough to fund everything on her wish list though, borrowed money was needed, too. She inherited a city with zero debt, but left it with indebtedness of over $22 million.

"As far as the Republican social conservatives and evangelical Christians are concerned, she was an inspired choice. She is anti-abortion, pro-gun rights and against gay marriage, to name three touchstone issues"

Someone explain to me how the above addresses the issues facing our country. I won't address the above issues, they don't effect the security or economy, they have nothing to do with foreign policy. They actually have no reason to be of interest to the Constitutional Govt. of our country as designed by the founders.

I'm thankful for this election season, it is the most important I've participated in. It has inspired me to relearn Revolutionary politics that are the foundation of this country. Thomas Jefferson a Republican would have Bush/Cheney before the bar for their actions.

Palin is not qualified by any measure except hope.

Repubs are saying that not selecting Hilliary was a snub, I think not. She will be much more effective in the Senate or a Cabinet seat.

Oosik: "Palin is not qualified by any measure except hope."

Hmm. Aren't you sure you're not referring to Obama? At least Palin has had executive experience on the city and state level.

I think the hope and change that the choice of Palin engenders is in the direction that most Americans would like to see, not that of number one liberal, socialist-leaning Obama.

"Palin is bright, quick, and capable but has absolutely no experience in any foreign affairs or in her understanding of urban America (where MOST people in our country live)."

The Guy without experience in foreign affairs is B. Hussein Obama. He took a trip to Iraq and Europe to fake some experience.

As for urban America, Obama seems to think there's 57 states in the union.
