It would be a great thing for the Utah and the Mtn West Conference to pull off the upset. But I can't see it happening. Rich Rod will have his guys ready and they will over match the Utes. Mich 31 Utes 14

One more day before all you Utes get brought back down to reality and find yourselves having a difficult time with this unproven Michigan team. Sam McGuffie is RB that's going to cause trouble. The 'D' I'm not worried about cause, it seems that this B.J. at QB will throw interceptions like he left off last year. Three of four D linemen are back, and if you missed the Florida game in the capital one bowl, the line was getting tremendous pressure. Hail to the victors! Prediction (34-13) Michigan of course. (Silly Utes) You actually think this is going to be a cake walk. I laugh at the arrogance of a weak team/conference. Big wake up call. I know App. St. remember we don't have conservative L.C. anymore. R.R. IS GOING TO PULL THE SHOCK AND AWE ON YOU! Don't let the unfilled depth chart fool you. To confident will be the Utes and they will fall just like last time they played us. I'll be at the game since I live just a hr. away. GO BLUE and MAIZE!!! YOU WILL HALE TO THE VICTORS.

you think the Utes are going to walk into this game thinking its going to be a cake walk?
no...but after seeing last years experienced Michigan team lose to App. State, I think this is going to be a wake up call for the mighty Wolverines...tradition doesn't win you football games this year...
P.S. Brian Johnson is healthy this year, thats the difference between this year and last year...look at the offensive production 2 years ago, when the Utes were 4th in the nation, and this is what you will be witnessing on saturday...

The saddest part for Utah is that once Michigan gets up, they will run the score. This isn't Lloyd Carr. Rodriguez will pour it on because he wants to prove something. Utah can't complain, because they are supposed to be competitive. Final score 45-7 Michigan.

Okay, I'm a Coug through and through . . . but I really am behind the Utes beating Michigan. We want Utah to be undefeated when they play BYU later this season. Both are great football schools and it would be a great match-up if both undefeateds play for the pride bowl. Of course, then I would have to cheer for the Y blue since they are AWESOME!! But for now, go Utes!
Cougar pulling for Red | 7:19 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
I just have to say that as BYU's biggest fan, I will be hoping for the Red victory tomorrow. As much as it hurts to say it...OK... give me a second here... Go Ut... Sorry... one more try... Go Utes. There. I said it.
nottyou | 7:38 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
There are only a few teams and programs I dislike more that Utah, and Michigan is one of them. Go UTES, win big and then go down in flames the last regular season game this year!
Anonymous | 7:48 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
From another BYU fan, KILL MICHIGAN!!!!!!! make them look stupid on their own field. Its time our conference makes a name for itself and this is a big step. GO UTES!!!

Who cares WHO you're pulling for? We don't need your support, and to those who want to see the Utes fall...we don't care about that either.
GO UTES!!!

Really? I'd just as soon see the Ewet's with a big goose egg in the win column when they match up against the COUGS!
True Ute Fan | 8:08 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
I'll be at the game tomorrow prepared to have beer/nachos (whatever they have) thrown at me while I make a fool of myself yelling for my team. I can't wait for the stadium to be quiet as a church mouse while I celebrate as Utah kicks a field goal on the final play of the game to win 34-31! Go Utes!
BYU Fans need a Utah win BAD! | 8:11 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
If the zoob's end up undefeated at the end of the year there is a good chance that they will end up beating 2 or 3 teams with winning records. Oh, there is mighty Northern Iowa so 4 teams. Wyoming, Colorado State, Air Force, SDSU, UNLV all could struggle to be above .500 and you don't know what UCLA and Washington will end up at this year after both almost be under .500 last year. So that leaves Utah, TCU and New Mexico to have good seasons. You better hope Utah starts off with a big win to make yourselves look better at the end of the year otherwise, your case for a BCS game holds as much water as a fish net!
Go Utes, shock the Wolverines again!

too many weapons for a confused mich defense, and and offense that wont be able to generate any ball possession time. utah wins big
From another Cougar fan | 8:21 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
come on Utes... Do this one for the conference! MWC needs a big victory over Michigan! Kick butt on Saturday!
BlueCoug | 8:23 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
This Utah team can handle anything Michigan can throw at them. Seriously, Michigan may have better talent, but Utah, as a team, is as good or better than Michigan.
Avoid turnovers, take advantage of early scoring opportunities, and play to extend the lead, not to protect the lead, and Utah will win this game.
Good luck to the Utes in the Big House.
See U in November!

RE Nate C | 8:27 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
OK someone has to do it....
Nate C,
If your teams play anything like their fans communicate (you) then the Utes really don't have anything to worry about! "YOU WILL HALE TO THE VICTORS." Can you please explain to all of us what the word spelled H-A-L-E means?
Oh and another one "To confident will be the Utes".. Were you UM educated or just Michigan raised? I guess there's not much difference.
It's very difficult to take anything you say seriously when I have to read and re read your post just to understand it. I guess all the things that Ohio State says about michigan fans and a UM education are true.
Sincerly,
Spell check and the english language.

punt-fest | 8:33 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
I think the real story, and the one that Ute coaches and fans care most about is the kicking game between their best athlete Louis Sakoda and excellent Michigan punter Zolton Mesko. Louis has been their only consistent bright spot over the last few years (yeah, a kicker) and will spend a TON of time on the field tomorrow. After both punters spend all day keeping the other team buried in their own territories, Utah will win the punt-fest 3-0. Yep, on a Louis Sakoda field goal.

"Rodriguez...was brought in to restore glory to the program. Last year's 9-4 record and No. 18 national ranking simply wasn't good enough for Michigan."
Whoa...Kyle is very fortunate to be coaching at the U.

sportsmanship | 8:50 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
I can hardly wait to see what kind of unsportsman-like behavior coach Kyle will show us in this game. The best part is, this time many more people will be watching unlike the Wyoming game last year. I see that their old coach who Kyle learned his stuff from has not changed a bit. Way to go Mac running it up to 62-6 against Montana Western Dental School. You brought that great ute sportsmanship tradition to Weber. Congratualtions, you've made us all so proud.
re: sportsmanship | 9:10 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
Running up the score to pad stats. Kind of reminds you of the old days when Lavelle ran things. Eat some Jello.
Ha Ha! | 9:20 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
re: sportsmanship good call!!! Thank you for being honest like a true Ute fan, and not hypocritical like the other guys.
Steve Smith | 9:21 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
A mediocre Wolverine team playing in the Big House with 107,000 + fans will send the Utes home with an early 0-1 record. Maize and Blue. There's a reason Michigan calls itself the champions of the west. Hail to the Victor Valiant!!
I hate the Utes | 9:26 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
But I find myself cheering for them this week. I don't care one way or another about the Wolverines, but still I want the Utes to win (and I think they will), for the same reason that I want TCU to beat Oklahoma again. Because it makes the conference look stronger. That's a two-fold blessing (go ahead, ute fans, make fun of me). First, when BYU beats both teams later this year it makes us look better. And second, when Craig "Hair" Thompson pulls his head out and invites Boise and Fresno (and maybe Hawaii) to the MWC, there is more of a chance that the MWC becomes a BCS automatic qualifying conference. That is the only way that BYU (or Utah) will ever play in a BCS conference - for the MWC to become one. So any win over big time programs that makes the MWC look stronger is absolutely crucial. Go horny toads against the Sooners. Go utes against the Wolverines. And GO COUGARS AGAINST EVERYONE.
I was at the Weber State game | 10:00 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
re sportsmanship:
There weren't many passes thrown after the first quarter. Are they supposed to take a knee three times and punt on every possession when it becomes apparent that the other team can't stop the run either? Mac wasn't running up the score. It would have been 100-6 if he had pushed it.

Blue and Maize reality | 10:33 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
You haven't sniffed a championship game in over a decade. I can't even remember the last time you beat Ohio St. You lost to a Division II-A team last season. Recent results compared to long-standing "tradition" are inconclusive.
Listening to Michigan fans spout their tradition rhetoric right now is about as credible as a Notre Dame fan talking about winning ten games this season.
No, Utah doesn't have the tradition, the career wins or national championships. But if you compare the present teams not past tradition, Michigan recruits and all, no Wolverine fan can convince me this will be a blowout. Whether or not Utah wins the game, UM fans need to face a haunting reality. Most teams and fans refer to it as: REBUILDING.

Good point. So we can see it's not a bad thing coaching at a school with such low expectations. Attention Kyle: Don't raise the bar too high this year, man. We promise we'll be happy with 8 or 9 wins and 3rd place. Just be your same consistent self, we don't want to lose you. On second thought, let's go with 7 wins just to be on the safe side. Thanks!
Anonymous | 10:48 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
Sportsmanship? You mean like guaranteeing a win to the media? That's classy.
re: puntfest | 10:49 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
I agree that this may be a punt fest. Field position is going to be huge. However, I have to disagree that Sakota is Utah's only bright spot in the past few years. I'd say Mack's breakout season last year was a bright spot. I'd say Weddle's season 2 years ago was a bright spot. I'd say the 7 game win streak last year was a bright spot. I'd say continuing the 7 bowl game win streak is a bright spot. I'd say losing most of your top offensive players for the year to injuries and still finishing with the record they did is a bright spot. As a Ute fan....I'm looking forward to adding another "bright spot" this year in beating Michigan.....GO UTES!!!
Tie??? | 10:52 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
As much as I hate Michigan (I have lived in Detroit), I can't bring myself to pull for Utah. Ute fans are the absolute WORST.
I hope this one ends in a tie.

No chance | 11:08 a.m. Aug. 29, 2008
Utah's worst luck is to go up against UM a year after they lose their home opener to a nobody team. I guarantee it will not happen this year. UM 42 U 14
And by the way, BYU NEVER needs to have Utah win. It would be great to have them never win another game. Ever.

@ Nate-C True Blue:
So are you laughing at the arrogance of Appalachian St. and their weak team/conference?
I get your here to irk the Utah faithful, but considering what happened to your team, opening week last season, don't you think it's a bit foolish to play the weak-conference card?

I nor any of my fellow Ute fans care if some BYU fan routes for the U. How many more posts do we need to see that say "I hate the U but.........." or "I am a Cougar fan but........"
I am sorry your athletic director and coach are trying to "Hawaii" there way to the BCS and have only one scheduled one team of any real consequence for you to get excited about on November 22.

Bless your pointy little head. I sure hope that if BYU makes it to a BCS bowl we don't get a really weak opponent like the Pitt team that u guys played. Let's see, who else did you play the year of your glorious run? Oh yeah, a BYU team at its worst in 40 years.
Oh, and here's a slightly different take on those comments you don't like seeing: I'm a BYU and I hope u lose by 10,000 points tomorrow.

No road win for Zoobs! | 1:40 p.m. Aug. 29, 2008
We need someone to win a big road game in the conference. We know the zoobs haven't pulled that off in a decade. Oh wait, I forgot about their huge upset over UCLA last year... Really, it's rare that a MWC team gets to play a team of any consequence. A win would really help our conference out, it was pretty pathetic last year.
Why.... | 1:49 p.m. Aug. 29, 2008
...do I read this drivel? Between Nate C (Michael Moore would be real proud of him) and rabid zoobs who have no business being here, I am perlexed that I can't stop reading these posts. It is like eating deep fried twinkies all day!

You're a BYU huh? Yep, typical Cougar post filled with arrogance and misspelled words.. Did you not look at Pitt's record when Utah crushed them? Check your stats, check your head, and be smart and change yourself to red!! Go Utes!!!

Utah beats Mich | 2:51 p.m. Aug. 29, 2008
Has anyone looked at Michigan? Their offense is untested and looks weak. Their defense will have to win the game, but are facing an above-average offense with Utah. Michigan's D could be better than the Utes D, but the separation of the Ute offense (Above average) from the Michigan defense (well above average) is much less than the separation of the Michigan offense (well BELOW Average) from the Utah defense (well ABOVE average). The game is for the Utes to lose. If they can avoid turnovers, they'll win easily assuming no injuries in the first half.

No, but i found the typos in yours:
routes /= roots
there /= their
use a "?" after a question
have only one scheduled one team (extra "one")
It goes without saying that BYU has only scheduled one team on November 22nd.
I'll bet Utah fans are very excited about that team of consequence from Odgen.

re: Michael | 2:58 p.m. Aug. 29, 2008
Pitt was a mediocre team that never should have been playing in a BCS game in the first place.
They tied for first in the Big Least, with FOUR other teams (that's MORE THAN HALF of the teams in the conference. They barely snuck into the rankings, after the regular season (obviously a facesaving move by the BCS establishment to avoid completely embarrassing themselves by having an unranked BCS conference champ playing in a BCS bowl).
Pitt is by far THE WORST team, EVER, to play in a BCS game. Utah deserved better, but that's the BCS for you.
