Romney is so presidential. He would make a wonderful and effective VP. I hope McCain will select him. What a great ticket!!

''Among other things, Romney, looking thin and tan, said Obama made a serious tactical error when he made fun of McCain not immediately listing the number of homes he and his wife own''
Hey Romney is dead right here!! I mean what an insult to ask a zillionaire how many homes he owns! Imagine asking poor old Mitt how many HE owns......... he's got better things to do than think about petty things like this. For instance how to maintain his tan and that super white smile while at the same time trying to figure out where all of the countries poor people came from. Leave these guys alone will ya.........

Romney is calling Obama a flip-flopper? Hahahahahahahaha! Unbelievable. I don't think I even need to mention Romney's well known flip-flops.
Utah Bill | 4:46 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
Romney would be a perfect VP because he seems to have no set positions of his own - making it easy to accept a president's stances.

Orson Scott Card wrote a very convincing letter asking McCain to NOT pick Mitt Romney. I was forced to agree with it.
McCain has enough of an uphill battle as it is. Romney will not win for McCain any states McCain won't already win; and Mitt will quite probably cost McCain one or more Southern states that McCain desperately needs against Obama.
We can thank good ole' Southern Christian Evangelism. The Evangelists would sooner vote for a gay man or an African American (ergo, Obama) than a "cult member" like Romney.
Alas, I wish it weren't so. I also think Mitt is a terrific candidate and is badly needed. Unfortunately, prejudice in the South and the tight poll numbers make Mitt too risky for McCain.
JMHO.

Romney goes to Denver to carry McCain's water. What a lap dog. It is emb. to watch ... it is almost as bad that Romney supporters actually think this is a great assignment or job.
Mitt, quit carrying the water for the guy who hates yah. Are you that desperate to be loved and to set yourself up for failure in 2012?
Quit being the lap dog. Grow up, stand up, get a spine.

I look forward to seeing Mitt Romney try to defend the LDS' legacy regarding racial discrimination in a race in which the key opponent would not have been welcome in Romney's own church at priesthood age.
McCain is ready!! | 5:51 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
McCain is ready... he wrote out his speech... but he can't remember where he put it... which home? Where? Do we own one of those, honey?
Early dementia has already set in for John McCain. Look at the record of mispeaking, can't remembers, etc. Early dementia has already set in.
When he addresses the faithful in Minn. you will see him read, read, read, the card in front of him because otherwise he will leave the road. He has early dementia. You know it, I know it. Who is going to have the courage to say it outloud?

Mr. T - Please allow me to express my displeasure at your referring to Mitt Romney as "Him", using the capital 'H'. Most of us reserve that designation for a higher authority and despite all of Mitt Romney's exemplary qualities, he has not been elevated to that status.
utahboni | 6:13 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
It takes a lot of gall for Romney or McCain to accuse anyone else of flip-flopping. They've both managed to be on both sides of every major issue. That is, except working to make rich people even richer. They've both been consistantly in favor of creating a permanent layer of American nobility. Romney saved a few corporations, but he did so at the expense of the people who worked hard to build the companies. He could care less about working people. If you're not rich, you're a fool if you vote for Republicans.
liberal Larry | 6:18 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
Poor Mitt. He seems to have a brilliant mind for ruthlessly making money, but as a person of honor and conviction he seems to be failing badly. After shamelessly pandering as a candidate, he has now become McCain's attack dog. He reminds me of Spiro Agnew.
CaptMorg | 6:29 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
I find it very entertaining to read the many comments from both sides of this argument. Everyone is so passionate and sure that they are right. I will remind you that we are talking politics here. That means that everyone on both sides will talk a lot about what sounds good and what they think the largest majority of voters want to hear. It is rather sad that there is so much venom being thrown about by both sides. Name calling and passing judgments on the character of a person with only knowing who they are by what you read in the paper or because they are the same religion as you is very irresponsible. Whether you believe in the Bible or not there is very good wisdom in the story that ends with Jesus saying, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." You are supposed to have an opinion and be able to choose according to your best judgment, but trying to influence people with snide, sarcastic comments is not productive. Also, irresponsible comments that are full of grammatical and spelling errors only add to your lack of credibility. Use spell check!

I hope he is the pick as well, it would really boost my confidence in a McCain Presidency. I think it is going to be a long shot for Mr. Romney to be selected though.

Romney is typical neocon slime in the Karl Rove, Dick Cheney tradition.
He's gone as far as he will ever go in politics.

Mitt flip-flops | 6:44 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
Regarding "Mr T" above -- referring to Mitt as a pronoun with a capital "H" as if he's Christ is chilling! Mitt's the "complete package" largely because he's been on all sides of an issue -- he's been both for and against abortion rights, he's for and against universal healthcare, he's been both for and against McCain...
I don't think Mitt is Christ, but I am concerned about his willingness to toss his values to "fit" with whatever the political whims of the times are. McCain has also turned right big time to appeal to the extremes of his party -- McCain's maverick reputation has been tarnished in my eyes. And adding Mitt, both of whom don't like one another -- a divide that goes way back to the 2002 Olympics when McCain criticized all the earmarks sent to Utah for hosting the Games -- could be a real challenge of leadership in the White House!

Qualifications? | 6:45 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
I hear the argument made frequently, in presidential elections, that one or the other candidate is "not qualified" and I wonder just what are important qualifications to be president?
Here's mine:
1) Intelligence
2) Ability to listen to the opinions of others, and if persuasive, change positions when the evidence is compelling (read not rigid, open minded)
3) Ability to get along well with other people, not an egotist, ability to recognize one's mistakes, etc.
4) Ability to recognize talent and assemble a highly qualified team of people around you. Reagan was good at this. The country is not run by one man, but by a large organization with lots of talented people. As a result, I'm not that concerned if, a candidate has only been in public service a short time if he has the other qualifications listed above.
So, I would ask that we all take a careful look at the candidates and see what the people who've worked with them and know them well have to say about them. I personally don't think Mitt is any more or less qualified to be president than either John McCain or Barak Obama--I can make a case for all three.

I actually have to get going to work soon. So I will post a preemptive challenge to the "only Mormons want Mitt". I do not live in Utah. I do not live in the Mountain West. I live in the South. Many Republicans have told me, "We made a huge mistake with McCain. We need Romney". I even hear it on the radio station, "We need Romney". Therefore, I don't buy the
As an American I think they are right. As a Mormon I am afraid of all the crazies that will now come out of the woodwork. But I think the country needs someone who has actual executive experience and someone who has had to make a payroll - not someone who was a "community activist" or been in government his entire life.

And what experience does the pretty boy have to judge others - how many people understand his business and how he has made his money on the backs of the little person even costing many their jobs. Yep he is the man of the hour

If Mitt is not the pick McCain will shoot hinself in the foot. Mitt is simply the best choice. I am most impressed by his sheer intelligence.

"complete package"?? | 7:23 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
If you mean he can support any position on any given day by flipping and flopping like flounder, then I get what you mean. Anyone republican who can get elected as governor in the most liberal state is a republican who Ronald Reagan would not even speak to.

Bigotry, hate and predjudice rear their ugly heads EVERY time a Mormon gets into the public spotlight. Most of the anti-Romney comments here are not really about Mitt Romney, they're about hatred of the Mormons.
Ernest T. Bass | 7:26 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
If McSame choses Romney, he can kiss the presidency goodbye. Those bigots in the south would never vote for a Mormon.
Mayhem Mike | 7:44 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
I laugh at the ignoramuses who blame Romney for "losing jobs for the little people" with his work at Bain Capital. Don't you get it? Did your IQ's drop sharply? The PURPOSE, the GOAL of a BUSINESS is to MAKE A PROFIT for its creators and those who risked to invest in it. It is NOT to hang on and operate in the "red" and hold on to low-paid, unskilled workers "out of loyalty." Romney was doing his job to make unprofitable companies PROFITABLE, not be the "savior" of its workers!
sheer intelligence? | 7:51 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
How about sheer and unabashed ambition?

Obama 08 | 8:12 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
I hate to disappoint all you rabid MItt fans, but McCain is going with Pawlenty (a number of news sources are suggesting this today.)
Let's face it, Mitt would be a disaster: flip-flopping, elitism, unlikeable outside of Utah. For a rich man, Romney panders like beggar, willing to sacrifice his integrity for political gain. Is this the Mormon spirit?
McCain simply doesn't respect Mormons or the measly 5 electoral votes Utah offers. Well I live in Utah, am Mormon, and am voting for Obama, who has only nice things to say about Utah (on a recent trip to his campaign office here, he told some staffers they are lucky to live in Utah.)
Now that the MItt fantasy is over, it is time for all Utahans to really consider who will be best for Utah and for the US--Obama. He has the plan, the intelligence, and the right set of skills to rescue the country from the Bush debacle.
OBAMA 08: It's inevitable!

Most of the anti-Mitty comments in this thread have NOTHING AT ALL to do with him being a Mormon.

This state means nothing on the national level of politics. How much campaigning have you seen by either party here in Utah the last 40 years? Why is that? Guess? It is and has been the most republican state by percentage in the U.S. forever. Why is that? With all that has transpired this past 8 years and before that people that live cult type lifestyles are told what to do and they do it(ala FLDS, Jim Jones, Amish communities ect. Wake up Utah and think for yourselves for a change, make your own decisions, don't be told what, where and when to do things. If you don't believe this, then why just why would this state have voted so pro-republican forever? Has there never been a qualified democrat to vote for forever? It is time for this SHEEP image to change.

No one is ever ready for anything in this life. That's why it is called, "taking a leap of faith and getting baptized by fire."
We the voters are "taking the leap of faith" when we go to the voting booth and cast our votes. No one is perfect in this world.

Disappointed | 8:54 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
As a former Olympic volunteer and active member of the LDS Church, I am disappointed in Mitt Romney. I found Hillary to be much more believable than he was in his rants. Why would he even want to be on McCain's ticket? Oh yeah, he could inherit the job if dementia or whatever was to set in. Even if he is on the ticket, which I highly doubt, I will not vote for it.
Funny | 8:55 a.m. Aug. 27, 2008
I find it hilarious that you all get so offended over comments on this board. I am a Mormon that is not for Mitt getting the VP spot. It is not because he is Mormon or the fact that he is a good businessman. The fact is that his positions on very morally charged subjects do not line up with mine therefore I cannot support him nor McCain. Romney is capable but McCain would endanger his campaign by adding him to the ticket. And liberals have jobs too "Unlike Most Liberals" just not ones that require a uniform like yours.

i find it interesting that there are very few comments about the actual article but LOTS commenting back to the commentors...for me, i can't decide what is more likely. romney helping mccain b/c he is the best candidate all around (i too think he is the complete pkg) and also being capable of stepping into the position of president if/when mccain succumbs to the effects of his age. OR romney costing mccain the presidency due to southern states (where i happen to live) having people in them that would rather have a democrat in office (or waste their vote on an indep-same thing) than put someone who doesn't share their "values" in office (as if a dem DOES!). i don't know what to hope for other than actually getting mccain/romney IN office.

Romney invaded Denver and went after Obama with both barrels blazin'?
That's an interesting writing style. Anyway, in spite of the fact that voting for romney is the smartest thing you could do, and voting against romney is blatant regigious bigotry, I'm voting Obama.

Housing aside, the gist of the article is that Senator Obama is not ready. Now, I would challenge people to read (at least skim) the Senator's book - "The Audacity of Hope" and then be bold enough to say he isn't "ready".
Senator McCain has garnered a lot of wisdom in his 72 years and he should be using it for his retirement years. Will President Bush be seen (and heard) at the Republican convention?

You need to get over your persecution complex. Romney is a joke and would be harmful to McCain's hopes of winning the election. People don't like because he doesn't have a backbone and his constantly changing views(IE flip-flopping), not because he's mormon. Go find another excuse as to why he's failing.
