I served in NATO defending the Eastern Front of Western democracy. I know how cold Europe gets. Europe needs Russian gas.
Oil from Russia can be sold to China so China requires less from the Middle East and that oil flows to Japan it all balances out without Russian taking a hit.
I've met Russians. They are better educated than Americans in subjects like math. They aren't stupid. As for their ability to fight; read about Minsk and Stalingrad.
This is a result of failed Bush policies. Russia is sending a message. They aren't scared by us.

I wonder if Russia is holding Georgia hostage until the missle defense in poland is removed. The irony is that the invasion of Georgia screams to the need of the missle defense and the importance of admitting these countries into NATO. I think this is the classic Russian short sightedness.
