Common Sense | 7:42 a.m. Aug. 13, 2008
Bingham will definitely be competitive for years to come, however I hope that they are not pinning the success of their program on Harvey? While he is a good player; he is not the athlete that his older brother Sam was. Bingham has other running backs that are more talented and have better field vision, which speaks volumes about how good Bingham could be. While their sophmore team has talent, they will certainly need the help of a very talented junior squad to make it all possible. Look for Yack, Lobdell, McCrae, and Koon to contribute at the running back spot, when they need extra yardage. This years team will need alot of help from the junior class to be successful!

As a prep football junkie, this time of year is definately my favorite. I follow high school football very closely and I expect Bingham to be right there again battling for the title. It seems as though Bingham is loaded again and I don't feel that Alta will have the firepower to compete. I'm a little surprised though at all of the hype being put on this Sophomore class. I know that Bingham always is very deep, however, isn't it a little unusual to heap such praise on Sophomores when they haven't even played one down of High school football? It sounds like this group did well in the Ute Conference, but until they perform at the high school level, that doesn't mean much does it? Just my observation. I will watch them closely and I will expect Bingham to do very well.

Harvey Langi has better field vision than all the backs mentioned by "common sense". He is actually more athletic than his older brother and should have more touchs than the senior running backs. He is much more durable than Lobdell or Yack and will be the next big thing in High School Football. As for the rest of Bingham, the article failed to mention their QB, Jake Soffe. As he goes, so will the miners go. If he's "on" they will go undefeated. Defensivley they will be good. Peck and Filiaga will be the leaders, with LT being the leader and best athlete by far. Go Miners

Bingham Alum | 9:48 a.m. Aug. 13, 2008
As an Alum, I'm very excited about the team and the stadium. It looks beauuuuuuuuutiful.... I think I'll go to a few more games than just homecoming!

Bingham sons and daughters, like the mighty waters, roll along to victory!
Riverton | 10:05 a.m. Aug. 13, 2008
You think these guys think highly of thier Spohmore class you should be at Riverton. They brought five freshman up last year. Now all five of those young men will be either starters or 2's on varsitiy and the staff has all but given up on thier junior class. I expect Bingham will take first in our region again Hunter/second, and hopefuly we can capture third and get into the play offs and just maybe get out of the first round. It will be tough this year, West Jordan always plays tough and Kearns has really started to come on. I love this time of year as well.
Layton | 10:57 a.m. Aug. 13, 2008
Layton will crush Bingham this year. Layton is loaded. Just ask Skyline.
re:Layton | 12:01 p.m. Aug. 13, 2008
You my friend are an idiot. Layton returns what...two starters? Layton is good once every ten or fifteen years. Last year was the layton jackpot and now they are going to morph back into a podunk, backroads team.
Bingham Fan | 12:23 p.m. Aug. 13, 2008
The success of this years team is to stay injury free? The core of this team is L.T., Soffe, & Yack. If any of these players go down...say goodbye to a good season. I hope that we don't go away from what has made these kids successful in the past? It concerns me that the media and the coaches are putting so much emphasis on a sophmore RB that has yet to prove himself. Stick with your Senior & Junior RB's that have proven themselves, and develop the soph's once we are ahead by 3 touchdowns.
Just don't see it. | 12:51 p.m. Aug. 13, 2008
While Bingham will undoubtedly win their region, they will not make it to the championship game again this year. They keep gravy traning the 2006 team, and what else have they done in 60 years??? Sure they are one of the top teams...but they have too many kids playing out of position right now, and too many coaches kids/relatives playing ahead of kids that deserve to be there instead. Same old Bingham...top-rated but will come up short in the end.
Layton | 1:38 p.m. Aug. 13, 2008
Once every 15 or 20 is better than once every 60!!!
Gunner | 2:02 p.m. Aug. 13, 2008
Just don't see it, What coaches kids are playing ahead of others? You mean Remington Peck who has a D1 schollie already? Look at who has been one of the top teams in the state for the last 10 years dude. Gravy training off the 06 team? Yeah, because they are hyping kids who were in little league in 06. You "Just don't see it" because you "Just don't have a clue"
10400 South Commuter | 2:44 p.m. Aug. 13, 2008
I'm curious to see how Bingham does this year. However, I'm more curious as to how much the Jordan School District paid out for Bingham H.S. alone this summer. Brand new track, new turf football field, new landscaped, curbed, and paved parking lot.
Praise is earned! | 2:46 p.m. Aug. 13, 2008
Wow, it must be great to be one of the nine amazing Sophomores at Bingham. I was always brought up to believe that praise is something that is given after it is EARNED, but apparently that is not the case. It seems now, at Bingham anyway, all that you have to do is be a Sophomore with the the right name. Oh I know that they did well in Ute Conference, big deal. Show me a little league A team from Bingham that hasn't kicked everyone's butt!! Those teams area all successful year in year out. Come on, IF these kids turn out to be the next great thing, awesome, I'll be the first to jump on that bandwagon, but until they have ACTUALLY PLAYED EVEN ONE DOWN OF VARSITY FOOTBALL, it seems to me that they don't deserve to pumped up the way they are. What incentive do they have to work hard? They've already been told they are all that. The players that really get my sympathy are the forgotten Juniors. There are plenty of kids that age with talent, but they are just being overlooked.
BBKS | 2:59 p.m. Aug. 13, 2008
Bingham can reload at almost every position. Losing Soffe and LT would be critical. Losing Yack is not as big a deal. Yacks position is loaded with potential replacements. Bingham's could lose players at running back as well and still be in good shape. They are also deep on the line, both O and D. Some say they are thin at receiver as well. Edmonds is good and Peck is servicable at tight end. Other that that they have 4 or 5 guys who are just adaquate as receivers. However, It they lose all their offence and defense to injuries I still think that they could beat everyone in their region and Layton twice. They are LOADED with talent and will be for the next 4-5 years.
Bad Timing | 3:03 p.m. Aug. 13, 2008
Too bad the bigham field won't be ready for the first game of the season. Skyline has a good team this year and anyone who has ever played on that field knows it gives the eagles an edge. I just don't think it was a smart decision to play there. Aren't there any other schools that could have been used?!?!
to "Bingham Fan" | 3:05 p.m. Aug. 13, 2008
Your kid must be a junior or senior running back at Bingham. Harvey Langi is just that good!!! He is much more durable that the Senior Backs. Every time one of them get hit hard they are out for 4-5 plays. I've watched pratice and I know of what I speak. Langi Just flattens people!!! And he has more moves that the rest of the backfield put together. Just because he's a sophmore doesn't mean he can't play.

Binghams new field is AWSOME!!! Good luck to the Miners!
Hey Layton | 3:17 p.m. Aug. 13, 2008
Unfortunately for you, we WON our championship when we got to the big game.
10400 South Commuter | 3:22 p.m. Aug. 13, 2008
It's not being named "Ron Thorn" stadium because the district shelled out all the $$.
School Money in Utah | 3:34 p.m. Aug. 13, 2008
I find it amazing that we hear constant complaints about the lack of money in Utah schools, yet every high school in state seems to find the money to build new stadiums or improve existing facilities. In Texas, a school district will build one stadium that will be shared by several schools. Seems to me we could be spending our money better.
to bingham fan @ 3:05 | 4:03 p.m. Aug. 13, 2008
To "Bingham Fan" So if you are watching practice are you a coach? I don't think so since practice is being held at the time of your post. Therefore, you must be one of the "Super Parent's". I wasn't aware that practice was open to the public, if so, we'll all be there. Otherwise, you are either sucking up to someone or hiding out using binoculars (lame)! Anyway, from what I've seen and been told, your right Langi is a great player. As far as the senior backs staying out 4 or 5 plays, your full of crap. But since you have such an inside track on the situation, please address the continual fumbling problem that Langi has. Yes, we know this is true and so do you if you are watching practice. Happens at practice (a lot), happened at camp (a lot), and happened (a lot) last year. Please enlighten us on what is being done about this. On a side note: I do agree with you the new field is Awesome!!!
re:gunner | 4:47 p.m. Aug. 13, 2008
top team the last ten years?!?!?laugh...bigham has only contended for two state championships in those ten years and won one ...congrats give yourself a pat on the back. Once you have a 5-peat you can consider yourself dominant. As for me, I am continuing to put my money on roger dupaix and the eagles. In that ten year stint you talking about the eagles won in 98,99, and 2005 and contended almost every year except for 2006 and 2007.
Re: Hey Layton | 4:49 p.m. Aug. 13, 2008
Just like you beat Alta last year in the Semi's right. Did that not count?
to Ed | 5:05 p.m. Aug. 13, 2008
dont worry the senior running backs will get time as well as langi.
Bingham Who? | 5:43 p.m. Aug. 13, 2008
Bingham's football program wins 1 state football championship in 60 plus years, and they think they are the cats meow? Good team, but don't let it good to your head.
Layton who? | 6:29 p.m. Aug. 13, 2008
As someone who does not like Layton or Bingham. Sorry Layton, Bingham would OWN you this year. I hope you meet up with them in the playoffs (if you make it) and be put in your place. Bask in last years glory as long as you can before this season starts cause once that first kickoff flies through the air, it will be another 20 until Layton is good again.
Layton | 11:16 p.m. Aug. 13, 2008
I am from Alta, we thought the championship game was the semi's. That was the real championship game last year. Alta players and parents have nothing but respect for each other. As the kid from Alta said tonight on channel 4 sports, it will be a war when Alta plays Bingham. See you in a few weeks.
who are you? | 7:57 a.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Langi is the man! So is lobdell, LT Ect. I expect to see more of Langi then Lobdell or Yack. Yack is more a defensive guy than anything and he will probably shine on the D side of the ball. Lobdell and Langi should get the lions share of the ball carries this year. That's a great problem to have if you are coach Peck. Bingham is going to be good for a long time. Their feeder program from the little league is Awsome.

The field is AWSOME!!! My only question is, how come the baseball field such a mess? I understand that Mr. Thorne offered to re-do the baseball and softball fields and was turned down. And if I'm not mistaken the baseball and softball teams have superior records than the football team ever has had.
Its Pre Season!!!!! | 8:31 a.m. Aug. 14, 2008
The fact that you all are worried about how much hype the soph's are getting is a joke. All the staff is saying is that they are good. None of them are starting right now so i dont know what you are complaining about. Like 5 of them are sitting at #2 on the depth chart so they are obviously good and of you get a D1 offer as a Soph you deserve some hype.

What have you done for me lately Skyline??? Ya you were the best on the 90's but that was then and this is now. As for Layton they have one good year and they think they have bragging rights..When was your last winning season before that? Bingham has lost like 5 games in 5 years. Timpview can compare to that and thats it. And the only one who can say anything is Alta cause they have the Title!!!
Just don't see it | 10:30 a.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Gunner: Apparently you are a Bingham Fan? But the facts are the facts: 1 championship in 60 years...wow what an accomplishment. It is pretty well known that if your last name is Peck or Langi @ Bingham, then you are set for your career through High school. A D-1 schollie, alot of people are betting that he will never see the field @ the Y. So we will see how that goes? The college game is substantially different from good ol' Bingham High school where having your dad as one of the coaches allows you certain liberties! Trust me, pinning the hopes of a championship on an uproven RB is going to be Bingham's demise. L.T. is Bingham's best player, followed closely by Soffe and then Yack. Good luck, we will see come November!
re:gunner | 11:11 a.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Obviously they don't teach you reading comprehension at Skyline. Bingham has been in the quarters and 1 semi and 1 final consistently over the last 10 years. That qualifies my statement as "ONE of the top programs in the state" Get your facts straight, they only competed for 1 title, not 2. Facts and reading comprehension must be be low on the totem pole at Skyline. I'll give recruiter Dupaix his props, but his recruits now are straying to Cottonwood as of late. He better start offering more than that fine "egucashun" you have demonstrated for us as a selling point.
Funny Stuff | 12:14 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
I just cancelled my cable tv for comedy central as these comments are GREAT! Reading these is way better than a morning coffee. Bingham SHOULD win a state championship EVERY year due to the feeder program and shear # of kids but there lack of championships tells it all! Let Bingham talk trash ... just like they do in little league, this isn't little league anymore where you think you can just take the field and win by 30 pts, even though they SHOULD! The Bingham parents make me laugh even harder .... seems the JR parents are a little upset at the DNews article, well go YELL at your Coach ... he gave them the info! If your kid is NOT as good, well suck up more or tell them to get better. As far as Harvey? Isn't it illegal to talk with freshman/ incoming sophmore about scholarships? I am sure Utah and BYU are enjoying those comments right now Coach! FYI: Love the comment about "to Ed" ... you must know Ed Yack or been to a Bingham Football or Baseball game. Funny stuff! Peck got a BYU ride? Is his Dad on the staff now at BYU?
Typical | 12:53 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
There goes good old Gunner again, being the "authority" on Bingham football. Nice to see the more things change...the more they stay the same!
Just don't see it | 12:56 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Did you even watch a game last year? Remington Peck had a fantastic year at D end. I'm guessing the Y didn't offer him the schollie based on his dad being one of the assistant coaches. Yeah, and I mean Sam Langi didn't earn his keep at RB last year either did he? Must have been his name. That program is looked at right now as one of the top programs in the state. Most coaches would give their eye teeth to be coaching there in that program. I don't remember anybody pinning their hopes on the RB either. They have more than one option at RB. But that kid is lightening in a bottle, trust me I've coached against him before.
Over-Rated | 1:16 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
The Ute Conference records that Bingham, Alta and other teams put up is a little over-rated. First of all The Ute Conference only goes as far north as Viewmont and as far south as Riverton. This excludes some mighty fine football programs: Northridge, Layton, Davis, Lone Peak, P.G., Orem, Fremont, Etc., Etc. So the winning records that the Bingham's & Alta's put up are a little skewed. That is why Varsity football is so great, because this "awesome" sophmore team that Bingham is sooo proud of, will be tested time and again against programs they have NEVER seen before! My guess...Bingham will get one more championship in the next 2-3 years, and that will be all. Hardly a dynasty for Bingham!
Typical | 2:06 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Well somebody needs to state facts on here!
Over-Rated | 2:37 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
In the last 15 years, a whopping 3 schools have been outside of the Ute Conference bounderies that have won the 5A championship.
Just don't see it. | 2:43 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
I am assuming that "Gunner" commented @ 12:56, that being the case...I did watch some of their games last year. The most memorable moment came when Remington late hit the QB in the semi-final game (Costing Bingham the game)! Huh? interesting that that little moment has slipped your mind. Good players don't make those mistakes. By the way, as good as Sam was, how many scollies was he offered? Why isn't he playing D-1 ball? He certainly was the best player they had last year.
To Funny Stuff | 2:56 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
NO it is not illigel to talk to a sophmore or a freshmen, he's been talked to and OFFERED. I dont get what your getting confused on?????

And harvi Langi is not the starting Running back all they are saying is he is good, Yes he will get some carries and Yes he is good, but no one is putting the hopes of the team on Langi. I dont know where you people get all this???

None of those sophmores are even starting!!!!
Just don't see it. | 3:10 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
You're right, good players don't make mistakes. That's why you never see NFL players getting late hits. Cause I mean they are in the NFL so they must be good right? Nice logic though. And ya think maybe Sam didn't get a D1 offer because of his size? With the numbers he put up, if he would have been Shak's size I guarantee you he would have had offers. Justin Sorensen is playing D1 ball, he must have been better than Sam right? I swear, it's like explaining stuff to a 3 year old with some of you.
Over-Rated | 3:10 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
To Post 2:37- Remove the Skyline dynasty from the picture (7 times) and you are left with and you are left with 8 champions. Of which 5 of those were won by teams outside of the Ute Conference boubaries. Huh? wonder why you missed that one? Which makes my statement that much more viable. Just because Alta & Bingham dominate their respective little league programs, does NOT mean they will at the Varsity level. Thanks for allowing me to prove my point!
What!!!! Just Dont see it??? | 3:48 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
Bingham has the most D1 offers in the state!!! with maybe the exception of timpview its probably close.
Over-Rated | 4:11 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
In 15 years the only teams outside those boundaries that have won a 5A championship were Davis, Northridge and Orem. If you're going to take out Skyline to skew your numbers to your liking, then you need to remove Northridge also.(3 championships) So that leaves 5 championships. Of which 2 were outside the boundaries. And Orem is no longer even 5A so if you want to count them in 93 you can. The fact still stays the same over 15 years, more were won within the boundaries than were won outside of them. Facts are funny I know.
Re: What!!!! Just don't see it?? | 4:38 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
What players have received offers? We are talking football, right? I can only think of 2 and it should only be one. Interested in who they are.
To Just don't see it @ 3:10 | 4:40 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
to just don't see it: You seem to think you know a lot, but you missed something. The reason Sam (who is awesome by the way) is not playing D1 has nothing to do with his size and everything to do with grades. Everyone knows this, its not a secret. If he could've qualified academically he would've been playing at BYU, but since he couldn't he is playing at Snow. I'm sure after his 2 years at Snow, he will be playing on the big stage. That is common knowledge!
Kriss | 6:03 p.m. Aug. 14, 2008
This article is a focus on the new stadium and some of the Bingham players, it's NOT about the parents of the players. Let's remember that and let all the talking be done on the field by the players and not on the internet by a bunch of guys trying to relive their "glory days". Go Bingham!!!!!!!!!!!

to over-rated 4:11- Dude step away from yourself. Apparently you have an ego the size of the valley boundaries. In my original post a stated that the Alta & Bingham programs don't play those other schools in little league (but I guess you missed that one, with your blinders on), and that the varsity game is completely different. So not to skew the numbers...in those 15 years you speak of, I can only think of one time each when Alta or Bingham won the title. ONE TIME! So this just further cements my original post. THE VARSITY GAME IS A DIFFERENT GAME. Skyline 7 Northridge 3 Bingham 1 Alta 1. Your own ignorance is over whelming. I said that their little league records play no part at the varsity level. The more you post about how great whatever program you're affiliated with is, the more stupid you look. If you want I will try to post it an crayon for you, so you can understand it?
Talk and comments mean nothing | 12:34 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
Everyone arguing about everything on here is wasting time. Wait until the season starts and the boys start playing.

The school district didn't pay for the stadium, scoreboard or the track.

Wasn't able to attend the Blue and White game yesterday due to the early start time. How did it go? Did the players that everyone is expecting great things from live up to expectations? Hopefully they all did great, and built a strong foundation for the upcoming season! Give us some feedback everyone.
Cheap Schools | 8:29 p.m. Aug. 16, 2008
"School Money in Utah" objects to the way we spend money in Jordan District. $250,000 of the cost of the stadium was donated. The program will also make a huge amount in advertising over the next few years.

As for educational funding in Utah we are dead last in the nation, and the margin between us and the next lowest school is huge. You get tremendous results for the paltry amount the taxpayers put into public education in this state. Imagine what we could do with even average level funding.
