This thing has been a boondoggle from the beginning. It's never had a well-defined mission. Is it a science center or an arts institution? The two are not incompatible, but it would be nice to do one well, rather than two poorly (or not at all). It was started at a time when there were multiple other demands on similar funding, both public and private. And, finally, the City of Salt Lake should not be placing the entire public side of the funding on its own residents (and that includes me) for an institution which would serve the county and larger metro area equally. If the larger community is going to benefit, and supports it as a whole, let's spread the cost. But first it's got to demonstrate a clear vision and support from private sources. It's not a dumb idea, like an aquarium in the middle of the desert, it's closer to too many ideas, none particularly well-formed.

I hope they're able to raise the funds, Utah desperately needs more Museums. We are a cultural wasteland compared to other cities of a comparable size.
