I am sorry, but the fact that Kidd was even on the olympic team let alone starting is deplorable. Kidd is way past his prime and even in his prime was one of the most overrated point guards of all time. Even as a Jazz fan, I am not being a D-will homer because I think that Chris Paul is also much more deserving of being the starter than Kidd.

Just look at how much better the Mavericks were once they traded for him this year.

William has done a great job coming off the bench as the back up guard, kid should be sittin more often. you go william. though i have a question for every one. WHAT THE BOOZER role on the team. he is life collins on the jazz. will not be call upon until we are up by 20 to 30 point. i'm sure collin can plan same role. i gotta give a shut out to AK47 for showing improvement in his game. GO JAZZ.

Kidd was 38-0 in international play, I believe. Paul led the US team to a bronze medal in the world championships. Deron's first exposure to int'l play came during the last tournament.

J-Kidd may be past his prime, and he certainly had a terrible end of the season with Dallas after the trade, but he is exactly what the Olympic squad needs: a veteran who knows what it takes to win a gold medal. None of the other guys has done that.

Have you seen Kidd's assist totals in the other exhibition games? He sets up the other superstars and isn't concerned about getting any points.

It's a great trio. Kidd is very unselfish and is tutoring Deron and Chris. Paul can get out and run if the team plays up tempo. And Deron is the zone buster (and plays some off guard as well).

And z-unit...before you get too excited, realize Boozer plays behind some great guys in Howard, Bosh, etc. Yes, he is the 12th man on the squad. No shame in that. And except for shooting more, AK's stats are actually worse: 42% FG and 50% FT's. Improvement?

Kidd didn't play in the 2nd half, and the commentator's during today's early morning game said that they expect Williams to really shine in Beijing. This because Kidd provides great leadership and experience but creates a liability on offense since he isn't much of a scorer. DWill's size and scoring ability should really help team USA.
Overrated? | 1:10 p.m. Aug. 5, 2008
Don't get me wrong: Williams and Paul are by far superior point guards. But to call J-Kidd one of the most overrated PGs of all time? The dude led an absurdly weak Nets team to the Finals two years in a row, and was even competitive in the series the second time.

And I don't think we should undervalue the old cliche of experience. Not like Derek Fisher was that talented of a player, but his calm demeanor and experience did wonders for Deron's development. I think Kidd will provide vital behind-the-scenes confidence.

Deron Williams is the best point guard in the NBA and thus, the world. He does everything as well as Paul and somethings even better.

Kidd should start because of seniority and because it won't matter this year. We are much better than the competition and don't need "the best point guard" on the floor at all times.

Kidd couldn't make this team in a true open competition. He has never been a shooter and is on the downward side of the hill. To give him credit for all the wins he has started in is silly!

Hurry up regular season, I can't wait. Not that I disregard the Olympics, but they just don't blow my skirt in the air like the regular season does. Political?
I like Kidd | 3:55 p.m. Aug. 5, 2008
Kidd may be slowing down but his experience is extremely valuable. If I was Williams and Paul I would try to learn as much as I can from Kidd. Kidd may be starting but I see Paul and Williams getting a lot of minutes.

I remember when people said Jason Kidd would beat John Stockton's assist record! And he's had a productive career but he can't hold a candle to John Stockton!
I would argue that Williams is already as mature as Kidd and probably more clutch. That's why he's getting the minutes. Williams will also have a more productive career than Jason Kidd.
Just waiting for the Bronze | 6:10 p.m. Aug. 5, 2008
Coach K is making a major mistake not playing D-Will or Chris Paul more than Kidd. Use Kidd in practice to mentor the other two but he is going to be outspeeded in important games by younger, quicker point guards.
They get more PT | 6:52 p.m. Aug. 5, 2008
Min per game:
JKid: 10
DWill: 20
CPaul: 23

Check your stats. Watch for Willy to get more time than Mr OOP because he is a better international player, and IMO the best PG in the NBA.
williams is better | 8:15 p.m. Aug. 5, 2008
I'm losing confidence in coach K. Come on. We want to win gold. quit worrying about j kidd, and his feelings. J kidd is old, and j wil is simply better. Gosh. If we end up with the bronze, america will be totally let down. we invented the sport, we should be killing people by 50 a game. this is rediculous
starting doesn't matter | 9:52 p.m. Aug. 5, 2008
Starting Kidd is a nice nominal gesture on Kidd's behalf, but the most important thing is that the other guys get the minutes, which is what's been happening.

It's painfully obvious that Kidd isn't nearly as good as CP3, who in turn hasn't looked nearly as good as Deron. Deron is, for my money, the top point guard in the world right now, and will be for years to come. If it weren't for LeBron, I'd be inclined to think D-Will would win an MVP at some point in the next six or seven years.
gold | 2:28 p.m. Aug. 6, 2008
The Americans will not win the gold. They are all selfish over-rated basketball players whom do not know how to be a team. You watch, they will not win!!!

Coach K is showing the world what we've got on the exhibition tour. The whole point is getting the players used to playing together and to establish a pecking order. Looks like LeBron is emerging as the alpha dog. Every player on that team including the much maligned Booze is a big star and is used to the responsibility of "taking over the game"...Obviously you can't have six or seven guys take over... The reason these teams have done well against the USA in the exhibition series is that they are well coached, run their stuff very well, and have played together in many cases for years. USA 10 or 20 games tops. Making them into a real team is the hard part for coach K.

Kidd is an iconic leader to this young team, and was D-Will's idol growing up. He could never leave the bench and earn and deserve a Gold Medal..
Cautiously Optimistic | 12:31 a.m. Aug. 8, 2008
Let's correct a few people, just to set the record straight. Both D-Will and CP-13 are playing more minutes than Kidd. Second, the game was actually invented by a Canadian - so get rid of this garbage about we invented so we should rock. Besides, how is that working out for the Scottish and golf?
Last correction, at least for now: those of you talking about how the Americans are playing selfishly - have you watched any games? Even Carmelo Anthony is sharing the ball.
Back to the point of playing time - a pretty good coach once said that it doesn't matter how you start the game - it matters how you finish. Team USA usually finishes with Kidd on the bench. All you haters-try watch a game or two. These guys are pretty good!

It's scary (good) how D-Will sounded like Coach Sloan.

It's pretty clear that he will continue to improve quite a bit and was the right choice for the Jazz.
