I weigh almost 400 lbs. and in truth it is because I never exercise and I consume large quantities of sugary, fatty foods (usually while watching t.v.). But I think I'll start using the lack of "walkability" in my neighborhood as an excuse for my obesity.

I love how obese people now have all kinds of excuses like DNA and environment to smokescreen the true causes of their obesity: laziness and poor eating habits.

I have over the past year tried to become more active because I realized that my lack of activity was starting to affect my family. We have been making progress but in the meantime I realized how our surrounding area isn't exactly pedestrian friendly. I can see why it could be a deterrent as in some cases walking would require walking on roadways instead of sidewalks. I hope the information in this article gets passed around. Small changes could make a big difference.
