Is it just coincidence that the only person charged in a fight in which many people were involved is a brown kid from a West Side high school?

Possible, but very unlikely.

The prosecutor surely just wanted to save face by not having to present his "evidence" in this case. He was lucky the judge gave him a way out.

Could there be anything "more typical" than your lame comment Typical? Get over yourself.

I'm all for EVERYONE who should've been charged in this case being charged, judged, and the appropriate punishment administered, but it smells bad when only one person -- out of HOSTS of participants was charged -- and no local people and no white people were among them. Either way, prejudice or incompetence, it smells bad.

There's no doubt this adult kicked a football player on the ground. I'm sure he's smiling, but he should be embarrassed. There's nothing to be proud about in getting away with assault. Face it, you got off on a technicality, and you know who everyone feels about stuff like that.

"He's a good kid".

That never gets old.
consider the | 5:42 p.m. July 2, 2008
source: its hunter, the kid was not a player or coach and should not have been allowed on the sideline....hunter plays (allegedly) academically ineligible kids every year and administrators turn a blind eye in trying to do what is right for the kid....get real and get some discipline over there hunter! you got the athletes to go to the final 4 every year for heaven's sake

Maybe there doesn't have to be arrests and court cases over every little thing.

Maybe common sense still exists.
Where is.... | 5:54 p.m. July 2, 2008
the Judge from? The name Maetani almost sounded Polynesian to me...
but wait>>> | 6:16 p.m. July 2, 2008
No quotes from the prosecutor, Ethan?, where is your journalistic fairness? There is more to this story. The case has appealable issues. He was the only adult involved. You want all the film go to Youtube. The defense atty is grandstanding as he often does. What a ridiculous assertion that the films were "doctored" an argument with no basis in fact. This is not over. The Judge is Asian/American. The def is shown kicking the kids head twice, while the player was on the ground, then making his way around him to kick him again in the face.
RE: Consider the.. | 6:43 p.m. July 2, 2008
Hunter does no such thing. While there does tend to be a lack of discipline, it does not extend to kids that are not academically eligible playing anyway. Show me one case where that's true. Granted, you put allegedly, yet proffer nothing to substantiate it. You make a claim, you put up evidence or STFU.

Got away with it..where's the proof? Oh yeah, there isn't any other than some AF kid or parent making crap up. AF started the whole thing, but because they are white and mormon, nothing's happening to them. Oh yeah, stereotypes can work both ways.
re: Where is | 6:44 p.m. July 2, 2008
Maetani is a Japanese name. Idiot.
Done | 6:54 p.m. July 2, 2008
AF had to play games without key players. "West side" and UHSAA got what they wanted.

No more "west side" whinning.

are you kidding me. You played the race card here in this situation. Call Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and all the other "crying for the wolf" advocates out there. Some one kicked someone, everyone else 'REACTED" Responsibility should lie with the instigator, black , brown, white, or fuschia. We will NEVER get over the prejudice in this country when it is perpetuated constantly by people like you. I lived in Georgia most of my life. moved here to get away from places where I couldn't drive in the daytime. WHY, because i'm white. What do you call that ? It's funny that the "race" card gets played in an incident that was as ugly as anything i've seen. GET REAL UTAHN"S. Let justices due process serve us all and when it turns on you, consider your actions rather than the color of your skin.

Wow, someone woke up from a nap this evening on the wrong side of the bed. I think that was a ligitimate question posted by Where is.

I think Asiata was guilty and should have been sent to jail.
a few words | 7:00 p.m. July 2, 2008
Just a few words: sorry i missed the fight at the game. Wish I had been a witness. I am out of state, but grew up in AF. Great city back then.

Prosecutor needed to show tapes if he had tapes. That is common sensical. No show, no case.

As to Maetani... yes, it is Japanese. The first time I every heard the name it was from a Japanese American who had fought on the allies' side in the Korean War. Maitani. Great guy. My mom had nothing but respect for him and his wife.

A long time ago, for you recent folks to AF, there were a number of great families with Japanese ancestory living in the city or on its edge. They went to AF High. The Kawakamis were just fabulous. The Kanekos were cool too. Amazing how well they did considering that on occasion they ran into some serious ^%^$. My family respected them because they were excellent citizens. Hard workers. Intelligent. Honorable.

Just a few words to balance out all of this stuff today.

What in heck are you talking about. Go get a cold drink and sit down. What does the Korean war have to do with a football game?

I thought that all the poly's were direct descendants of Lehi, or Nephi, or something.

I guess that don't matter to all the good folks of American Fawrk.
doesn't matter | 10:25 p.m. July 2, 2008
neither team would have gotten past layton anyways...

The reason the American Fork Police department could not come up with the six video tapes for this case is that they were to busy chasing pheasants from the week before. Just like this case, those charges should have been dropped also.
