About time, if not already too late.

It is too bad, an innocent little girl had to be raped and murdered, for someone to step up and start sending them back.

My only question is can these criminals get back over the boarder? If so then this is a waste of time and money.

How lucky Washington and Weber Counties are to have this program. Also to have Sheriffs who care enough and are willing to actually protect the public from criminals! Imagine that.

Why with all the illegal immigrant crime(drug dealing, rapes and such) in Salt Lake and Utah Counties, would not our Sheriffs here not demand the have this program?

Any politician or law enforcement official who does not demand this program for their own jurisdiction should leave or be booted from office like Cannon!

Tony Yapias!? Give me a break. This guy has no credibility after being dismissed from Utah state government. His is the shrillest voice in Utah promoting illegal immigration and he always has only one thing to say: more, more more.

Now if we can just get other "safe haven" areas (i.e. Orem/Provo/Utah County) to do the same, and stop catering to illegals, we may be able to halt the deterioration of the state due to welfare, medicaid, and free schooling. Illegal aliens are single handedly breaking that back of this state.

C'mon people lets demand that the Utah county sheriff start using this program now!!!

Great. ICE can start with my street. Just look for the landscaping and stucco trucks parked on what was the front lawn. Gracias!!!

The whole program is a sham. They're removing serious criminals - but the original goal of allowing local law enforcement was to use the as a force multiplier to get rid of all illegals who were charged even with misdemeanors, like speeding, driving without a license, or whatever.

Like SB81, this program is little more than a way of trying to fool voters into believing that laws are being enforced and that ICE is actually deporting large numbers of illegal aliens. Even most of the people arrested in these massive raids never get deported.

My heart breaks for the many innocent victims of crime who will now fail to go to the police for fear of being deported. The undocumented population includes many women and children who have little or no choice in their circumstances and will now have less access to help than before.

I also question how the police will determine who should be investigated for citizenship or immigration status. If this leads us to racial profiling, it's a giant step backward for the state who hosted the world community in the 2002 Winter Olympics.

Our immigration system is broken and needs help, but let's remember compassion in the process. For those of us who are Christians, let's also remember Jesus Christ, who taught the way we treat our brothers and sisters from all countries shows how we would treat Him: "I was a stranger, and ye took me in."

Utah County Sheriff James Tracy: (801)-851-4000
Salt Lake County Sheriff Jim Winder: (801)-743-7000

Ask for a program that helps deport ALL illegals who are caught, not just hardened criminals.

They are asking ALL people who are being incarcerated for identification. What is wrong with that? All people are being asked for identification. No profiling just an honest question to all who are being incarcerated. However if they are here illegally then they are sent home.

My heart breaks for those the suffer from illegal aliens that: hit & run, ID theft, burglery, vandalism, etc., & those that suffer have nowhere to turn for restitution to happen.

God & Christ knew about borders, read your scriptures & you will see!
The law is the law!! | 3:22 p.m. June 27, 2008
If you're here illegally, you broke the law - it's that simple. There's no other answer than deportation! There's too much special treatment already!

Where's the compassion for those who are suffering at the hands of these illegal invaders?

Christ also taught honoring, and sustaining the law of the land.

Salt Lake Police Chief Chris Burbank said, "Do you want police officers asking every single person they encounter if they are here illegally?" No, just those that get locked up in the county jail,Chief Burbank, for whatever reason. We have enough of our home grown lawbreakers without taking in the foreign illegal aliens as well. Get rid of them and let them pay to get back across the border, which will be cheaper for us than keeping them in jail.

How do you folks in SLC tolerate a police chief that is unwilling to enforce the law? Of course they fear the police, so do the drug dealers, and other criminals along with their enablers. Chief Burbank owes his allegiance to the SLC citizens, not to the lawbreakers and those that do not belong in this country. Since when do the police get to decide what laws to enforce? Remember this program only applies to those arrested and booked into the county jail. I have lived my whole life and never been in jail.

A pat on the back to Washington and Weber counties and their sheriffs!

As a former illegal alien, I am happy to see programs such as this one being brought into action. I despaired every time an illegal alien did something which made the rest of us look as if we were all criminals. At the same time, I've never understood people who simply will not give illegal immigrants a chance in this country. I never understood how most americans seem to forget that they too are here because of illegal immigration. Their ancestors also came to this country when it belonged to someone else. They forget that half of the United States belonged to Mexico at one point and was acquired through less than honest means. I believe that illegal immigrants who commit crimes other than being there illegally should be deported. No question about it. But, how can you turn people who truly wish to better themselves away? would you turn your forefathers away? As a former mormon, I also do not understand how people can go to church and not remember that they are supposed to help others. there seems to be a whole lot of hypocrisy going around in the states nowadays. I never thought illegal immigration amoral.

So is that the reason they are doing NOTHING about the illegal alien invasion? They are waiting for money? That's pathetic!

ALL state, county, and city governments should already be enforcing the laws instead of ignoring them.

If all counties in the U.S. did this, we would slowly reverse this illegal alien invasion. And yes, build the fence...high and deep..these aliens are deported and keep returning over our porous borders 6 and 7 times. They have nothing to fear and thumb their noses at our laws. Mandatory jail time for all illegal aliens and removal of anchor baby citizenship would help.
