With todays economy what else is new? It's a big scramble by big businesses to get theirs. Well guess what? After everyone has raped the common people where will they turn to for their existence. Todays economy, integrity and future is in the tank. It's all about GREED, GREED, GREED.

As was stated in the last Council meeting, the cost has gone up on the seed, chemicals, fertilizers, etc. used at the golf courses by over 6% this year and with the increased costs of fuel for the mowers, some of these costs will need to be passed on to the consumer just the same as every other business. The alternatives would be to buy less produces and close some of the golf courses down.

I'm a Salt Lake golfer who goes down to golf in St. George about 10 times per year in the early spring and late fall. If they raise the prices I will not be going down to St. George for golf. So go ahead and raise the prices, but if you do I won't be coming!

This glorious little pristine area is now being exposed for what it really is all about. Investors, financial, real estate and wealthy greedy people selling something that is over rated. How do you like 100 plus for 5-6 months, and at least 3 months of night time freezing? Sounds like the typical over hype, over sell make me rich mentality. Now we need a water line from Lake Powell that we don't know or won't tell what it will cost the typical resident, so the big boys can continue their scams. It' about time people saw Washington county for what it really is OVER RATED.

For someone who lived in St. George for 4 years and played about twice a week at the various the courses there. They should raise prices, the courses have the most value for a good round of golf I have lived at. As a resident I had a resident golf pass and it was even more of a steal at some great courses.
I live in Boston right now and trying to pay for a round of golf is brutal. You should feel lucky for the oppurtunity to play those courses for nothing. And if they raise prices to pump some more money into the Dixie economy then good for them they should have done it a long time ago.
And I bet that for residents it will still be very inexpensive at the same time hitting the thousands of visitors at a higher price. A intelligent and obvious move that will pay dividentds for St. George residents.

As a local, I don't mind a bit if they raise the prices on the courses. We have to pay outrageous prices to go swimming with our families so why should they have "special" prices. I am among an unheard of group of middle age people who are sick to death of hearing the older generation gripe and complain about everything here. I have raised my children and am helping to teach my grandchildren good manners and how to treat people. Most of what they see is the snowbirds driving eratically, too slow or too fast, downright rude behavior to others in stores and resturants and total disregard towards anyone younger than them. I have even heard one "special" older lady tell her friends that most of the neighborhoods around her home and church were nothing but slums. Too bad she can't see beyound the end of her upturned nose. Please, please don't come to southern Utah if all you want is perfection and expect a price break on everything. Please know we are all just trying to do the best we can and gee-whiz, why should you get a break on golf prices??? boo-hoo

If there is a discount, it should be during the off season peak time, the hotter months and in the afternoon, when the Market Price players are less likely to be on the course!
Why DOES GOLF NEED TO BE SUBSIDIZED AT ALL?

Why should we subsidize your Golf? Do you subsidize my hobby?

Why should they offer seniors a discount to play golf? I work and live, and pay taxes in St. George and help subsidize the recreation for these old geezers. Age should not be a consideration for a discount when we are talking about recreation. THAT IS AGE DISCRIMINATION!
The increase in fee comes down to simple economics... pay to play or stay home!

Why is it when someone else or a business wants to raise prices to cover costs they are called greedy. Yet there are many out there that claim that they are underpaid and when they receive an increase in pay they are only being fair and paying them what is rightfully theirs. Basic economics and business will tell yu that if you can't cover the costs you will go out of business. How many of you know anything about running a golf course and what is involved in making it profitable. Another thing how is this news? How many golf courses raise their prices and nothing is said about it.

Its going up roughly a dollar and a half. Deal with it. If your trip is destroyed by a two dollar increase, then I am surprised gas didn't already destroy it.
Cities Shouldn't Subsidize Golf | 3:40 p.m. June 13, 2008
WHY is a city in the business of running a golf course in the first place???
Golfers walking around with their little balls, not getting any REAL exercise, wasting precious water on vast expanses of lawn. Golf needs to go the way of the dinosaur, McMansion and SUV.

This is a real conundrum. A recent article in the New York Times reported that millions of people are giving up recreational golf citing the cost and time commitment. Raising green fees to increase revenue may also price some golfers away from the sport, so I question if this proposed increase has really been studied from all aspects. My hunch is that even if green fees in St. George aren’t increased the number of duffers from the Wasatch front making the trek to bust some sod in Washington County will be down significantly due solely to the travel cost.

If it wasn't for us old retired duffers St. George golf would be Red Hills and Southgate. We are on fixed incomes and pay the same taxes working citizens pay. A big chunk of our property taxes goes to funding schools and we don't complain about that.
Already overpriced | 10:27 p.m. June 13, 2008
St. George is already priced more than it's worth. Go ahead, raise the prices and watch people just stay up north and the local residents quit golfing. Why don't you also raise the price to play tennis or swim or walk in the park or play softball or baseball. All are recreational activities so why pick on one?
