What would happen if OSHA conducted a safety inspection during a game? Wouldn't the owners be forced to reduce the impact of the noise?

This has been a complaint I've had for the last few years of the 26 years as a Jazz season ticket holder.

I don't mind the crowd being loud, that's great, it's just the constant bombardment from the PA system. Sometimes it's so loud you can't hear the cheers. The crowd noise is a much lower pitched and less damaging sound than the treble enhanced, severely over amplified, piercing music and announcers screams.

If the decibel level of the PA systems could have a governor place on them to restrict the decibel levels, that would solve the problem for me. Hopefully, the NBA will take some action.

it is very annoying to view the game on tv and listen to whom ever it is that rings that stupid tinker bell all thru the game. it has a very piercing sound and takes away from watching the game. it is as if a 5 year old was in charge.

As usual, Robinson whines about useless trivia and attaches an elite name to it to make himself look good. Robinson is nothing but wasted noise himself.

Absolutely, positively, a great column that hits it right on the head.

Thank You for validating my extreme discomfort and annoyance at ALL OF THAT UNNECESSARY NOISE! I knew I couldn't be the only that goes home with a headache and ringing ears after a game. Unfortunately, I've already have suffered some hearing loss from being subjected to sound systems being WAY TOO LOUD- I'm only 37 and I don't want to be deaf in 30 more years. I now try to avoid it by using plugs or even just covering my ears with my hands- but I worry about my children's hearing health.

Kudos Doug, I add my amen to Mr. Yengich and the others that find the noise level from the Pa system in the ES Arena way to high. My son has had season passes at Blaze games for three seasons now and I went once each season; but this last time I had to politely turn him down because of the noise POLLUTION. It is very annoying. I have nerve damage in one ear and can't make out half of the words said by the Announcer, and nothing at all by Big Bubba, (I think thats what they call him?) when he comes out to make a plug for something.

I wholeheartedly agree with Doug R. and we should thank him for bringing this to the public's attention. I go to a few games each year as a guest of a season ticket hold and we often sit in row 9 directly in front of the PA system. It is SO LOUD that I'm considering declining these invitations. The last time was a playoff game against Houston and it was louder than ever, compelling me to insert and remove earplugs throughout the game. The Salt Lake Valley Health Dept. should enforce existing noise ordinances at the Delta Center (OK, ESA). (That should also apply to obnoxious, unmuffled motorcycles, too.) The fans and especially the people who work there (including players and coaches) deserve to be protected from excessive noise, just like the tarmac workers at the airport.

This is a great article. I can't even talk to a friend in between innings at a Bees game. And don't get me started on Jazz games. How dumb do they think people are that they have to tell us to MAKE SOME NOISE throughout the game? It is ridiculous! I've never heard anyone say, "I wasn't going to attend another game, but now that they've made it so loud, I'll definitely be back." People don't attend games to be yelled at.

You all are a bunch of freakin whiners, everyone I talk to goes to the jazz games BECAUSE THEY ARE LOUD! Its intense and exciting and it really shows how much jazz fans love their team. You all are too OLD obviously, and probably are very wealthy, and we all know rich people are the biggest WHINERS! So why don't you drive your beamer to an opera and eat some caviar and sell your season tickets to REAL JAZZ FANS!

Waa Waa Waa John K, you make me sick. Why don't you have your kids check you into the rest home, you can have your peace and quiet there.

Well buffy I couldn't agree more. What they need to do is kick people out of the arena if they open their mouth. Give me a break.
