Never think that a dress code is a substitute for placing academics first. Raise Utah Academic standards, there is no substitute for this.

Dress codes for schools should not be the decision of parents or students and schools should have full control of how the students are dressed. Students are in school to learn and should be the primary concerns of parents and students. Schools are not a place for fashion shows or students discriminating and harassing each other on their dress. The time for uniforms has come and the reason they are in school, to get an education so they can read, write, and do math before they get out of high school. Too much emphasis and concern is being wasted on fashion rather than learning by parents and students. Parents should welcome a dress code or uniforms to cut cost in school dress every year. Parents could save hundreds if not thousands of dollars on clothing their kids every year if they would accept dress codes. Dress codes give pride in schools and the students going to the schools so there is no reason not to have thses dress codes.

An overwhelming majority showed they are more concerned with pandering to their kids than actually parenting them. Boy, you really showed who's the boss - and it ain't the parents!

Give me a break! You must be old timers. What happened to kids being themselves or finding out who they are. Do you seriously think if kids wear what they want to school or if they have to wear a certain uniform that it will make a difference in there grades? No it does not!!!!! and if you do think so, you need to get a life. Studing and getting good grades is up to the students desire or brains not the clothing they wear. Duh!!
We behave how we dress | 5:58 p.m. May 14, 2008
My 16 year old daughter is attending a Certified Nursing Assistant program. She loves the fact she doesn't have to think about what to wear to school.. She has to wear hospital scrubs daily.
I think as a parents we would embrace some kind of basic clothing that would take pressure off the students(and there is pressure to dress "in style"), take pressure off the pocket book, and and cut down on the immodesty we see in the public schools.
re:buck.... It is proven our dress does affect our behavior.

i am a 6th grader and personaly, wearing uniforms will do now good! it just prevents us from expressing our selves to the world. and if we wanted to get good grades then we would actually study for tests, clothing has nothing to do with it. if you think that wearing the same clothes will be less distracting, your wrong, we dont care what eachother are wearing, its just that we solcialize. so making us look alike wont do a dang thing! now i am in 6th grade so i know what i am talking about here!

Interesting argument Steph!
You say, "we dont care what eachother are wearing" and you say that wearing uniforms "just prevents us from expressing our selves to the world".
Well, which is it? If what you're wearing is your way of expressing your selves to the world and no one cares what you're wearing - what's the point?
