This is so skewed -- salaries using jobs that are based on 4, 6 & 8 year university degrees & comparing their pay with a mother & homemaker what a joke.
Just because I painted something does not make me a professional painter, balancing my checkbook does not make me an accountant, baking cupcakes does not make me a pastry chef, talking with my children about problems does not make me a psychologist ... you get my idea.
Doing these comparisons only trivializes the degrees studied for & promotes the worldly view that what mothers do should be paid for or it's of no worth.

94.4 hours? With small kids at home, I'm on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In my calculation, that's a cool 168 hours a week. You don't get to "go home" from work when you're a mom.
In addition, some of us for one reason or the other (usually a disabled kid) don't have the luxury of a break to go out to a show or dinner at a restaurant.
Try and get a resident physician or surgeon to work under those conditions...

Why place a monetary value on motherhood? Have we been so indoctrinated by our materilaistic society that that unless we do this we don't value anything?

OK, but why is a 'working outside the home mom' worth about half as much??
I work outside the home full time, but I STILL do all the work at home TOO!
I should be paid TWICE as much!
You can mail my check to me anytime.

You probably pick up your kid(s) from daycare at 6 PM or so. Your kid(s) go to bed between 8 and 9 PM. Your kids are at school or in daycare all day, so how messy can your house get? You are paying someone to watch your kids all day, so clearly that job has value. The value of raising your kids is beyond measure. I can't imagine the trust you must have in others to let them do it for you.
A wise person once said "you can have everything (kids and a career), just not at the same time".

Re: K
Nah, I just locked the little buggers in the closet for the day.
But every once in a while they get loose, and they can really mess up a house, you know.
Really, you do not know anything about my situation, I was making a feeble joke about the double pay thing.
Lighten up.
