I hate Lazy Basketball. If you can't bring your A game atleast bring your A effort. A high schooler could get through those Jazz screens. Three defenders on the ball in the paint...lazy...With the money you are making at least break a sweat!! LAZY, just plain LAZY!

Can we just cancel the NBA already?

Lakers shot 43 freethrow attempts, to Utah's 16 freethrow attempts.

Show me any team in the league that can overcome being clobbered with almost triple the amount of freebies by the other team.

Tonight, one team was allowed to defend any way it wanted.

The other, was not.

Stern wants a Celtics-Lakers revival. That much is obvious.

Cancel the NBA and have the Lakers tour, like the Globetrotters. Why pretend it's an honest competition anymore?

Oh, and for the series through two games, Utah has just 46 freethrow attempts to L.A. getting 89 freethrow attempts.

That is just flat-out WWE-style officiating.

Where in the world is Carlos Boozer? Does he know his team is in the playoffs? He is playing like he is in a daze. Wake Up Boozer! Unless you already have a vacation planned.

Boozer an AllStar | 12:43 a.m. May 8, 2008
What has happened to his Game? No where to be found!!
Out manned | 12:45 a.m. May 8, 2008
Not enough horsepower in the tank to compete. I love the Jazz, but no one can stop Kobe. He can score at will. But could we at least stop the traitor Fischer from draining 3's!!??
Fisher Factor will do Jazz in | 12:47 a.m. May 8, 2008
Fisher is playing angry and this is motivating the entire Laker team against the Jazz.

We will lose this in 5 games maybe 4 if Sloan is not careful with game plan and doesn't make adjustments as needed.

Been saying this for days. The Fisher fiasco will cost us this season's playoffs. Don't blame Sloan or the players for this one, because it is on O'Connor and Miller for letting Fisher out of his contract.

Fisher and the Lakers are laughing at the stupidity of the Jazz management now. I guess karma is getting us back for stealing Boozer from the Cavaliers.

Nice job D-Will and Millsap. At least they showed up ready to play.
Statement game | 12:49 a.m. May 8, 2008
Boozer: I am no leader. I am mentally weak. I am intimidated by big games. I shrink when defended down to nothing

Williams: I am scared to death of Derek Fisher. He knows where I'm going before I do and there is nothing I can do about it. I am not a defensive point gaurd. I am not ready for the big games. One day maybe but right now I am blinded by that glaring light. What is that light? Oh it's Chris Pual's shinning star status. My star is flickering.

Sloan: I wake up at night in cold sweats with visions of Phil Jackson in my head. I fear no man but Phil scares me to death. How is it that Phil knows what to do durring the game to combat my every move. Wait I have no moves. I substitute based on the game clock. My substitutions kill player momentum, unfortunately my own players. I I wish I could bring the best out in players but I don't know how. I have lived a lie. My teams are not tough. My teams don't know how to defend. I don't know how to teach them. I am weak.
PLAY MILLSAP!! | 12:52 a.m. May 8, 2008
Booz really showed up tonight. When we were really down, he hit some amazing clutch shots, went after loose balls like an insane man and really hustled on def... oh wait. Booz was riding the pine pony while Millsap kept us in the game. In fact, did Booz eben show up to the arena the last few games?

Play Millsap more! This guy has no fear, is tenacious on both ends of the floor and his energy is contagious. "Sap got 17 and 10 in 29 minutes (.58 and .34 per minute). Booz had 10 and 5 in 24.5 minutes (.4 and .2 per minute). Booz went 3 for 10, 'Sap shot better than 50%.

Give me 'Sap or give me (playoff) death!
Nicklaus | 1:01 a.m. May 8, 2008
Who can we get in the offseason for Boozer????

Does anyone have a guess?

I hope the Jazz can turn it around in SLC.
Where's Booz? | 2:16 a.m. May 8, 2008
Where in the world is Carlos Boozer? He must be on vacation in Carmen-San Diego. Seriously what is the deal with this guy? An All-star? I'm still waiting to see the All-star in him. He had a great season, but like playoffs past, he tends to disappear when we need him the most. An NBA player makes a name for himself in the playoffs. I wonder what they will say years from now about Boozer? I'm guessing they will say that he was a great talent, but a major disappointment.
booz | 2:48 a.m. May 8, 2008
Who can we get for boozer? With his massive contract? Which team would want this slow, uninspired loser? Only a stupid team led by incompetents. I kno. The Grizzlies!! After all, they didnt want Pao Gasol. Maybe they'll take Boozer.

Look on the bright side. We might get Kwame Brown in exchange!!!!!
Sleepless | 2:48 a.m. May 8, 2008
Let it start now. Boozer for Bogut this summer.

The Jazz will never win a title with Boozer because he is a liablity defensively and gets eaten alive by longer, more athletic forwards (like ODOM)
Chick-N-Stu | 3:22 a.m. May 8, 2008
"Stern wants a Celtics-Lakers revival. That much is obvious.

That is just flat-out WWE-style officiating."

Well the Jazz are one of the leaders in fouls given during the season. Jazz opponents average 30+ FTs a game.

The Lakers are the better team right now, just like the Jazz were in the 90s. I'm sure you'll agree Stern would have preferred Bulls/Lakers matchups in the NBA Finals back then, so why would he not rig the outcomes & whistles in favor of the Lakers back then?

And certainly he would have preferred the Suns in the finals last year compared to the low-ratings of the Spurs? Yet he laid down those suspensions that clearly tipped the scales towards the Spurs...
Stop blaming the refs... | 3:23 a.m. May 8, 2008
If you look really, really hard, I’m pretty sure you can come up with something else.
I don’t mind losing to a better team if everyone gives their best out on the floor, what makes these losses so tough to watch is the feeling that some players don’t even seem to care about winning or losing. It’s ridiculous. People said the Jazz wouldn’t stand a chance against the Lakers and might think they’ve been proved right so far. The problem is, they haven’t. The Jazz could have won BOTH games if they hadn’t decided on trailing by 15 before starting to actually compete.

The Jazz still have a chance but they will have to step up BIG TIME defensively and need to win both games at home.
Dear Mr. Sloan, | 3:48 a.m. May 8, 2008
I know you always say „It’s not a coach’s job to get players motivated“. Of course it isn’t. We all know that. After all, that would mean spending less attention yelling at the refs or staring at the game clock in order to know when to substitute. It would perhaps require actually saying something positive to a player once in a while or pretending you actually believe in your own team. I know, I know, it sounds pretty far out.
But please, your ‚let them play through it’ strategy obviously does not work with these guys.
Ben | 4:10 a.m. May 8, 2008
I’m not sure anyone or anything could motivate Carlos Snoozer…
His own life could be at stake and he would continue to sleepwalk down the paint shouting ‚grab it’ at his teammates.
RE: Sub-Odeon | 4:13 a.m. May 8, 2008
Yes, it's true that the league benefits more from having the more popular and PC Lakers win than the old-fashioned, small-market Jazz. And there's no doubt the referees are on notice to that fact, formally or implicitly. It shows.

However, the Jazz know this! It's like the 1998 Finals--the superstar was supposed to retire on top, so the Jazz were at a disadvantage and knew they had to make up for it. Rather than ask why they aren't getting fair officiating, the Jazz (and us fans) should instead ask why our guys did not use better shot selection and play clean defense. If the answer is that the Lakers are just better, fair enough. But whining about officiating will get you nowhere, especially for a small market team. It nearly worked for Houston, but it won't work for us.

Go Jazz, better luck back in SLC.
rizzo | 4:17 a.m. May 8, 2008
jazz foul more than any team in teh NBA. they should've been called for more in game two. this is just a lame excuse b/c jazz fans don't want to admit the Lakers are just a better team.
lamonte | 5:35 a.m. May 8, 2008
Hey "Statement game" - If you an all star effort by Boozer maybe you could set an example by trying some original comments. Isn't this just a copy of your comment on another blog?

Everybody - check the box score. The Jazz got outscored by the Lakers in only one quarter. It was in the first quarter and it was by 15 points. Obviously that was what made the difference in the game but PLEASE don't accuse the Jazz of not trying. Yea, I yelled at the TV more than once asking the Jazz players to get off their rear ends and rebound but I think most teams would have caved early in the second half but the Jazz were battling to the end. If you're a true fan you'll be urging to do better, not accusing them of not trying. They are playing the "greatest player on the planet", afterall. And by the way, where I live the game ended at 1:30 a.m. and I stayed up for the last second and then got work by 6:30 a.m. How about you other fans? What sacrifice are making?
disgusted | 5:39 a.m. May 8, 2008
In most places a rapist is a criminal not an MVP, just shows why this country is going to pot.
re: Statement Game | 5:48 a.m. May 8, 2008
I agree that Boozer was AWOL and is not playing with ANY fire, but you are way off on Sloan and Williams. Perhaps you didn't notice that Millsap actually played more minutes than Boozer or that Williams was 5 for 5 from 3-point land. Perhaps you also missed his amazing dunk over Odom. The fire shown by Williams and Millsap, with occasional bursts my Okur, kept Utah in the game. Williams was an absolute warrior in the second half.

The Jazz lost because of poor interior defense and a HUGE discrepancy in free throws (43 attempted for LA to 16 for Utah).

Utah just needs to do some of the small things better in game 3 and they will be just fine. NCJazz fan is exactly right that ALL the players have got to bring "A" effort, even if their "A" game is a little off. The Jazz are a tough, resilient team, and will continue on...
James | 6:21 a.m. May 8, 2008
Boozer needs to assert himself more in the post instead of on these high screens that DWill keeps calling for. At least he will either have a one-on-one to work with or double team pass to an open shooter.

However, I have to say Utah's game plan has been weak so far. If your biggest low-post guy is Okur, can you at least call a couple plays for him down there instead of screen-and-roll for 3 every possession? If you look at the freethrow disparity, a lot of it is the officiating, but a lot of it is the lack of assertive post play. Utah has settled to drive the basket (and miss layups) rather than establishing position on the block and working from that. When they do post, they are looking to pass out of it, even without a double-team.

At least it will be different in Utah... I hope.
New Jazz Slogan for Next Year | 6:21 a.m. May 8, 2008
The winner for the new Jazz slogan next year:

JUST WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR, YOU WILL SEE, AGAIN!!!

Runner ups:
A PURE SUGAR RUSH AND CRASH

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS (as long as we don't have to play on the road, the Lakers, Spurs, Raptors, Celtics, Mavs, Rockets, Nuggets, and the rest of the NBA, Defense)

WHERE GETTING ROLLED IN THE PLAYOFFS HAPPEN, AGAIN.

Face it Jazz fan, it is time to stick a fork into the Jazz, THEY ARE GOING ON VACATION NEXT WEEK! At least there is always next year, although, the Jazz will get rolled in the playoffs. CAN YOU SAY SWWWEEEEEEEEEEEP? We know you can spell Kobe's initials M-V-P.
odogtriever | 6:27 a.m. May 8, 2008
Sub-Odeon, You are not crazy.
Sloan and Korver | 6:33 a.m. May 8, 2008
When a coach plays someone like Korver, who is a liability on offense and defense, for more minutes than Brewer, Price or Miles then that team is going to lose if they have a good opponent. Jerry Sloan has never been able to accept that the demands of the shooting guard position have fundamentally changed since he played the game. Miles and Brewer have the athleticism to push Kobe on both ends of the court. Korver is a gifted college player who should be playing in Italy because he is too slow and too soft for the game in America. Sloan needs to use the talent on his bench instead of clinging to a lost era that no one else misses.
Refs | 6:41 a.m. May 8, 2008
I can't stand people who use poor officiating as an excuse when they lose. That being said you can't ignore 43 foul shots to 16. That's absolutely unbelievable. In a sport that relies so much on judgement calls by officials the refs have got to call a more even game. It sounds like Philip is once again ruling the NBA. I agree with the previous comment. I stopped watching the NBA years ago because it felt like I was watching a scripted performance rather than an athletic competition. It's starting to look like that again.
IowaJazzMan | 6:45 a.m. May 8, 2008
I was excited when people compared Boozer to Karl Malone. Now I know what they meant. Both CHOKE in the playoffs. Nice.

Way to earn that money
Boozer | 6:47 a.m. May 8, 2008
I agree with the previous comments. Play Milsap instead of Boozer. At least you know you'll get 100% effort and you'll give Milsap valuable playoff experience. Milsap is the future of the Jazz at power forward, not Boozer. As for the question about what the Jazz could get for Boozer in a trade. You'll have to find a team that's willing to give up a good player for a player with no hustle, no effort, takes bad shots, and has no heart.
JOE | 6:48 a.m. May 8, 2008
Kobe the mvp? This is a flat out joke is this not the same man demanding a trade and crying about his team not being good enough?!!! Then all of the sudden Gasol ends up in L.A!!! Kobe and the Lakers may beat the Jazz team which plays scared against the Lakers and Spurs but I believe the true mvp in Chris Paul will have something to say about Kobe winning the title this year Chris Paul was not crying about his team he took what he had and made a franchise Chris Paul is the true mvp Kobe is a joke
Adjustment | 6:52 a.m. May 8, 2008
I originally thought the Lakers would take the series in 6. I would like to readjust that to 4. Boozer stinks. I don't know which is worse Malone playing strong until the critical moment, and folding EVERY time, or Boozer not showing up at all.
RE. Nicklaus | 6:59 a.m. May 8, 2008
We could get a player named Okafor who is with Charlotte. Get it done Conner.
Refs | 7:03 a.m. May 8, 2008
STOP BLAMING THE REFS! YOU SOUND PATHETIC! Jazz DID NOT SHOW UP. Blame them. Blame Sloan. Blame Boozer. Blame D-Will. Then blame Boozer some more.
Purple and Gold | 7:10 a.m. May 8, 2008
The Purple and Gold are looking strong.
Jazz Fans are wrong.
It is obvious you will contine to weep.
As the Lakers aim for a sweep!!
Jazzercise | 7:18 a.m. May 8, 2008
Utah should not hate on Fisher for leaving. If it were not for him, Utah would have also lost to the Warriors last year in the playoffs. Too bad the Warriors did not make the playoffs this year or else you guys would be in more trouble, due to the way you guys play defense. If that would you guys call it. Stop flopping and start playing defense. Coach Jackson gives more props to Kobe getting the MVP than Michael by saying,"I dont know of anyone who deserved it more." Lakers in 4.
Ralph | 7:19 a.m. May 8, 2008
Jazz didn't show, period. But the officiating was worse than the jazz if that's possible. I turned the game off after the first quarter because both were just plain nauseating. Both teams were banging but only one got called for it. Ridiculous.......
Deserved | 7:22 a.m. May 8, 2008
The Jazz have got just what they have drafted, traded for and aquired through free agency--- too many non-athletic, slow of foot, lack of quickness plodders. The league has changed boys. Today you better be able jump, twist, spin, run, and shoot or your going to be in deep Ka Ka. We have way to many lead-foots with limited athletic skills to be able to compete for any championship any time soon. Watch and see who wins it all this year and compare the roster skills with ours.
ram | 7:23 a.m. May 8, 2008
hard to complain about the officals but the lakers took a lot more free throws and dont the jazz take the most or 2nd most free throw att inthe nba on average this season but not in the playoffs bottom line though last night mvp not kobe derek fisher check his stat line and he made big play one after another
wolf man | 7:24 a.m. May 8, 2008
millsap is the beast boozer a horrable defender

go jazz
The rockets | 7:28 a.m. May 8, 2008
they would of at least put up a fight... Everybody in a jazz uniform with maybe the exception of Millsap NEED TO STEP IT UP! Boozer needs to stop being a shooting guard and start being a power forward. Its embarrassing to watch these guys fumble around. Who has the last laugh now? everybody not voting Booz or Deron an all-star. And by the way, a GREAT player plays consistent, not the last quarter and a half like Deron has done several times in the playoffs. Where has Deron been in the first half? I really thought the Jazz had a chance but I was soooo wrong. The Hornets & Lakers should be a good series! Go Jazz, Prove me wrong.
Suspicious Reffing | 7:37 a.m. May 8, 2008
I generally try to not worry too much about the refs. However, consider this:

1. The Jazz took 24 more shots than the Lakers from inside the 3-point line.

2. The Jazz scored 18 more points in the paint than the Lakers.

3. The Lakers were awarded 27 more free throws.

How are those numbers possible? It couldn't be that the Jazz are called for a foul for just looking at Kobe while Fisher (and everyone else) can put their hands all over Deron, Boozer, Kirilenko, etc when they make a move towards the basket, right?

Anyway, I'm just trying to reconcile some really odd numbers since the team that takes it to the hole usually gets rewarded with the foul shots.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm..............
Ryan | 7:39 a.m. May 8, 2008
Lakers in 5. The Jazz will fight and win game three, but it won't be nearly enough the rest of the way.
Sinan | 7:45 a.m. May 8, 2008
To me, Mr Sloan made mistake by not sending Memo to the floor when the score was close to catch L.A. on the 4th period. He kept him out of the game because of his 4 personel foul. It was much much better to push him to the floor to contribute to make score and to take rebounds to win the game instead of getting him cold by sitting. The key was Memo. The refree got it and gave him a stupid foul but Sloan couldn't recognize it. As a result, the Jazz has kicked a good opportunity away to beat L.A.
One more thing is for Boozer. Common man, you've killed the game. Pull yourself together as soon as possible, pleaseeee.
GO MEMO , GO JAZZZZZZZZ
Ug | 7:47 a.m. May 8, 2008
The Rockets are watching this series thinking, "We'd put up a better fight than this!" If only the Jazz could put up as courageous battle against he Lakers as the Rockets gave against the Jazz.
The Jazz step on the floor, the Lakers step on the floor. There is no doubt, that before tip off, who the loser will be and who the winner will be.
The Lakers intiate, the Jazz react. The Lakers attack, the Jazz recoil. The Lakers control, the Jazz panic.
This is over in 4. Game three might at least be a game, game 4 the Lakers blow the Jazz out leaving everyone wondering how on earth this team made it to round 2.
THIS SERIES IS A LOT | 7:47 a.m. May 8, 2008
like last year in the WCF against the spurs. Watch the Jazz will destroy the lakers in game three lose game 4 and 5. Sloan needs to let KOBE get his 40 points but not let fisher vujacic, odom, etc get there career highs also. Since the Jazz can't stop Kobe why not shut down everybody else. What are you thinking SLoan.
Jazz fans | 7:54 a.m. May 8, 2008
You guys are all funny. Kobe is the MVP, it's what he does ON the court not off. Jazz foul the most during the regular season and play aggressive and you complain WHY? The Jazz have made it to the finals before so the league fixing games is WAY out of the question. Boozer didnt show up at all and DWill doesnt show up untill late, Milsap keeps the Jazz in the game but do you expect him to do that every game? No, Boozer should be doing that! Take your whoopin like a man and admit that the LAKERS ARE JUST BETTER!
Tmoney | 8:05 a.m. May 8, 2008
The Lakers are lucky they were very fortunate to have Derek Fisher just fall into their lap. It was classy of Larry Miller to let him go, but it is not too fun now that he is nailing threes to beat you. Hey, Derek if you had some class at least you would have played for the Clippers and stayed out of our way.
Without Fisher who knows how happy Kobe would have been until the Gasol trade happened. Mark Cuban made a very valid point about that trade. There should be some sort of equal value in trades. The Grizzlies just hooked LA up and that is not right for the rest of the league. Trades should be a competative part of the game as well and the Grizzlies could have gotten more. I propose we trade CJ Miles Jarron Collins, and our #1 pick to Houston for TMAC. I'm just not sure if Houstons wants to hook us up or not.

The free throw disparity is troubling I don't care if the lakers shoot 10-15 more free throws but 27 is comical. That and what is up with Boozer I think he is injured he is not right.
Troy | 8:06 a.m. May 8, 2008
"Help me out, I can't see real good, is that Karl Boozer?" I seem remember him from the 98-99 campaign....I kinda feel sorry for him don't you? Maybe he can pull it out at home and realize his true potential....Jazz fans, you need to help here at our arena..
Spell it out. | 8:06 a.m. May 8, 2008
S-W-E-E-P.

Go Lakers!
New way to start the game | 8:09 a.m. May 8, 2008
From now on a Jazz-Lakers game should not begin with a jump ball. The game should begin with the Laker starters lining up at the foul line and shooting 5 foul shots each before the game even begins.
A Laker | 8:12 a.m. May 8, 2008
Fouling is something that the Jazz is known for they lead the league in that department during the regular season. Now you want to use it as an excuse for losing two games to a far superior team? Get real! I go back in the NBA to when your Jerry Sloan played for the Bulls. Sloan was by far the dirtiest player I have ever seen play this game. As a coach he teaches those same tactics, and influences his teams with the same doctrine. Seeing as you all like numbers, don't look at haw many fouls were committed, how many made. Look at the shooting percentages. You cannot win playoff games shooting that poorly. Blaming it on officials is just a lame excuse! Sweeeeep Go purple and gold!!!
