Deuchar is a tough one to call. He works VERY hard, gets in good places, but just can't get it over the line. The header he had that Onstad saved was unlucky because he pounded it but it was right at him. The free kick he kicked over was going in, i sit on the east side and was perfectly behind the play, that would have been a goal if he didn't touch it. But as soon as he went out (and Williams, who may not play D but is necessary on offense just to distribute) the offense completely died.
My final vote- keep playing Deuchar because he is a threat in the air, which other teams have to watch and opens up the field for others (see his should-have-been assist), and get Espindola out there with him as soon as possible, with Findley off the bench. Nunez should be our fourth forward at best.

Just a few thoughts.
Seen debates on whether Wingert punched anyone or not. The cameras missed it because there were a half dozen players between the cameras and Chris, but he clearly threw a punch that was quite visible to the fans and linesman on the east side. I had the perfect view of it and he clearly was guilty.
The RSL fans continue to humiliate and embarass themselves. Please refrain from throwing debris on the pitch no matter how frustrating what takes place out there. We should be better than that as a community. Most of the RSL fans are so supportive and it is a shame that a small but significant minority are making the rest of us look bad.

You are all wrong | 12:33 p.m. Jul. 8, 2008
you are all wrong. Wingert hit the ref in the middle of the ruckus. It is clearly shown in the clips. That is why he got a red card and will likely get another 2-3 game suspension. Really stupid.

Juice Box Guy , you sure you watched the RSL/Houston match? because Wingert hit Dero not Ashe.

Sorry Emi, I was at the game and watched the taped TV broadcast. My point is that the punch did not show up on TV because Ashe's back was to the camera. Watching the game live, sitting in the first ten rows everyone clearly saw Wingert punch Ashe in the jaw. The people around me all saw it as well and there was a noticeable gasp in the crowd. I agree the replay on TV doesnt show it because it came from a bad camera angle, but that doesnt mean that it didnt happen. Also, the assistant referree was right there and he was the one that told the head ref to red card Wingert. But that didnt show up on tape either!

The ref was horrible. Almost as bad as our finishing. There was no reason for Beckerman to try to trap that ball in the first place. Deuchar served it up on a platter 7 yards out from goal with Onstad stranded. Beckerman needs to hit that first time low into the corner. His ability in front of goal has dropped off the last few weeks and he needs to get it back. We missed Espindola again. Deuchar will get a goal soon, and when he does they will come in bunches.

I will not blame the refs for making us tie that game. RSL blew their easy chances. Dr. Goal needs to play the full game if he can. He may not be scoring right now, but he opens the field for other players because of his leathal headers.

I was at the game also and if you were watching closely you would have probably noticed that as Wingert went to push Corey Ashe one of his arms got inadvertently blocked by one of the other players. His free, open, hand ended up pushing Ashe, who didn't flinch or move. If he was hit he would have been rolling on the ground trying to invoke a red card...Still, Wingert should have been more restrained even though DeRoe started the whole thing and he wasn't even in the play. The lesson for all players is nothing good can come from going after another player with your hands, feet or head.

Olave is the New Eddie Pope! He's big and strong and wins a majority of the balls that come his way.
And the reason the fans got so out of control is because that REF let the game get out of control. There were a LOT of bad fouls he missed, and then even more fouls followed. Retaliation fouls were coming all over. So the ref has nobody to blame but himself! The fans had enough. I was on the North end of the stadium and worried that a full water bottle would clobber our own players. I hope the fans throwing things have good enough aim to hit their target. HA!

Wingert didn't punch anyone. The camera had a perfect angle and you were able to see the whole thing on TV. I watched it over and over. There were no punches thrown. The camera doesn't lie.
I think the league should overturn the red since it was obvious the officials made a mistake. Trust me if DeResario had been punched he would have fallen and rolled around for a good 45 minutes. He is the biggest actor in MLS.

RE: Emi
Hate to burst your bubble, but Wingert deserves the red card. I was sitting on the East side and everyone there saw Wingert clearly punch Ashe in the jaw. It didnt show up on the Telecast because the cameras were on the West Side. I wouldnt be suprised if the league tacks on a few more games to Wingert's suspension. The only question was whether Houston deserved a red card as well. That is what the fans on the East Side were upset about!!

Duechar is getting pretty desperate to score, you could see it in his play last night. Still he was much better off the ball last night and set Beckerman up perfectly. Once Duechar was subbed out our attack instantly deflated.

chris didn't deserve the red card. Derosario pushed him and he wasn't even in the alteraction. Deuchar needs to sit . Give nunez a whole game with the first team and see what happens. we dominated most of the game .I agree that Real made all of the houston players seem invisible. Great game.
Williams a 1 | 1:06 p.m. Jul. 4, 2008
Williams will never score another goal and he doesn't play defense. Other teams are packing in on Morales and Duechars because they know they are the only real threats on our team. Stop them and you stop RSL. They are daring the other players to beat them and no one is. Once Duechar left there was no offense since then all they had to do was stop Morales. We need Espindola back and we need one more scoring midfielder. (Two would be even better)
The red card on Wingert was an incredibly stupid call. A minor shoving match (started by two Houston players) is no reason to red card a player. The red card should be overturned by the league since the official said Wingert threw a punch, which he did not. The red card appeared to be a gift to an outplayed Houston at the end of the game. It almost cost us the game.
Last place teams get bad calls against them. It's just a fact in all sports everywhere. Kreis is just mad because the officials can't seem to stop treating us that way even though we are no longer a last place team.

The good Dr. must sit. What a horrible game at least 3 perfect scoring chances and nothing, then tripping on the ball, what a joke!

Re: Hey Emi, Pointing out that fans elsewhere are worse is no defense of what sounds like some out of control fans at Rice-Eccles.
From my perspective (the ESPN2 telecast) it looked like our defensive third and midfield did a pretty good job (though we were too quick to give the ball away). Our boys just need to start finishing. They looked horrid up front.

Hey Emi | 1:26 a.m. Jul. 4, 2008
While I agree that fans need to show some class, I don't think you fully understand how tame american fans are. A lot worse happens else where. Plus I don't think the team is ashamed of their fans. It's good to see they actually are in to the game.
Emi | 12:49 a.m. Jul. 4, 2008
I think the fans were being very unsportsmanlike. CONTAIN YOURSELVES YA BUNCH OF ANIMALS!!! Throwing junk on the field is no way to show your spirit for a team. It just shows that you're a one sided bunch of predators. As for the players...I think that Chris Wingert didn't deserve that red card, the Houston player did! He's the one that started pushing Chris after the call was made.
I still don't think that game is finished. The ref mostly had to stop it cuz you "fans", so called, were way out of line! I was totally sure that ReAL was going to win, but the crazyness was too much and had to be stopped then...guess we'll never find out how the game ends...
~Emily (a TRUE 14yr old spirited ReAL FAN.)
P.S. I am ashamed at you people, and I am sure that the team is afraid to admit that you are their fans too. Whatever happened to the heart of the game? The glory?

Give Nat Borchers and Olave more credit. They made DeRosario and Ching disappear tonight which if anyone follows the league regularly will tell you that is no small feat. I think it was one of the best defensive performances we have had this year.
