Reader comments: A Plumm Summer
| May. 29, 2008
The score was one of the best things about this movie. Jeff needs to educate himself in the art of a musical score as nearly everyone I know loved it!

Jeff, thank you for suggesting A Plumm Summer could find a wider audience if it weren't up against the summer blockbusters. As the producer of the film, I'd like to mention to you and your readers that your review is interesting but I think it misses an imprtant point. This is an independently financed, produced, and released family film which has won presitigious Family Film festival awards, was the featured Family Movie Event at the Heartland Film Festival, is the recipient of the Dove Family Seal of Approval, the Parents Television Award, etc. I mention this because the reason most of these people embrace the film is BECAUSE of the score, and because the director has the faith that families can enjoy a film with both comedy AND drama. A Plumm Summer is based on a true and funny event: a famous TV puppet is frog-napped and three kids embark on an adventure to find him. The film's tone is intentionally gentle - thus the score and the family drama are designed to give kids an experience more akin to Sounder or the great old family films where these elements create a safe MOVIE atmosphere, rather than playing it like real life. This is not Ordinary People. Our intention was to entertain children without sex, violence, fantasy, or explosions. We wanted to tell a funny true story and wrap it in a tale of brotherhood with just a dash of real family drama. I completely respect your opinion and I thank you for taking the time to review our picture, but I do wish you could have seen all the families from Indianapolis to Northern Ireland who sat on the edge of their seats and loved the film. Sincerely, Frank Antonelli (producer)
