Reader comments: The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

Our family loved this movie! My husband and I went a second time without the kids. We are all fans of the books and think they did a marvelous job of filling in the somewhat-sparse plot of this particular book, as well as rearranging some of the action to bring the main characters together more quickly. It also rounds out the characters nicely from the first film, keeping consistent with not only the first movie, but the books to follow. It's the best show we've seen in a long time.

Just saw it the second time, very much enjoyed it. Good family fair. While my interest in the Narnia Chronicles went downhill after the first, this sequal held up. Excellent lessons in loyalty, leadership, values.

This movie was a horrible dissapointment.I wouldn't pay money to see it again.

Excellent movie!! I even enjoyed it better than the first. Why only 2 1/2 stars though? I strongly disagree with the review. It was much better than that!! I would definitely see it again!

Prince Caspian was my least favorite book of the Narnia series. That said, I thought this movie was OUTSTANDING... better than the first movie, better than the book, and better than Indiana Jones & the Crystal Skull which I saw since seeing this Narnia movie. I actually liked the things that were added which weren't in the book, which is pretty rare for a book-based show. I'm looking forward to seeing this again, even at full price, which I won't be doing for the Indiana Jones movie.

The movie is good so far as you don't expect it to follow the book verbatum. Take it as being based on the book and you will like the show. The same message the book presents is manifested in the movie; you just have to be patient for it to emerge. Besides, Lewis left so much to us, unlike the Harry Potter series, and I like the different perspectives introduced: i.e. Peter and Caspian's feelings between each other and Peter's struggles with going from being a king to being a boy in our world. The voice for Reep took a little getting used to, partly because I liked the Warick Davis' voice in the old British production. But the ending makes it all superb. I only wish they had the scene with Caspian's nurse and the healing of the old lady.

Given that Caspian is the weakest book in the entire Chronicles of Narnia, it doesn't bother me that they rearranged and added to the plot. Following the book the Peevensie children wouldn't have even shown up until 1/3 of the way through--for example. And these fine young actors definitely needed to be brought in much earlier.
The best thing the movie does is enhance it's Christian message by focusing the interaction with Aslan to a single major point (without giving plot details away). For those with ears to hear it was a touching moment with a very important lesson.
Good job!

I thought "Prince Caspian" just like "The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe", were awesome and really neat. I really enjoyed it, with all due respect to Mr. Vice and whoever didn't enjoy it as much. I suppose it all boils down to personal opinion, but "Prince Caspian" is a very well made and beautifully shot movie and not much more I can say. Except that both "Narnia" films are fantastic and the next one will be great too.

Actually, you shouldn't read the book if you want to enjoy this movie. The book is far simpler, and far more enjoyable. The movie muddled the plot so thickly that it only barely resembles the book. Unfortunately, the movie goes in so many directions typical of Hollywood when it should have just used CS Lewis.
I know, this is a typical "I like the book better" response, but it has never been more true here.

We didn't like the Spanish in it. It broke up the flow of the movie and we found it annoying. It didn't go at all with the first one. The acting was not good, besides the kids, and there were no fun characters that made you laugh like the first one. People told me you had to read the book to get this movie, which is probably true, which is why I didn't understand all the subplots and so much that just didn't make sense, nor was it explained. You can never beat the first one.

As with so many sequels, the original was so much better. I was disappointed.

Only 2 1/2 stars? This movie was way better than that!!

This was the kind of movie that makes May such an exciting time of year for movie goers. The visuals were exceptional. The spanish conquistador look of the antagonists gave the antagonists an imposing presence. The battles were bloodless, but intense, and the movie moved at a comfortable pace. I don't know how the reviewer here came up with less than 3 stars. My wife and in laws went, ages ranging from 6 to 95, and all of us left having enjoyed it. If there was a flaw in the movie it was the sequence leading up to (SPOILER) the cameo of the White Witch. Two disturbing demonlike characters tempt Caspian, and they are unpleasant to say the least. Aside from that, the kids will love it. Go and see it!
