Removal of dynamite planned for today

PARK CITY — A cache of old dynamite uncovered at a hotel construction site this week will be neutralized and removed this morning.

A private contractor will use chemicals to neutralize the six cases of dynamite that were unearthed by a track hoe near Deer Valley on Monday, according to a statement from Park City officials.

Once the dynamite has been neutralized, the explosives will be taken to a safe zone where they will be burned. Until then, the construction site will be kept closed and a 1,000-foot safety area will remain in place.

It is unknown how long it will take to neutralize the dynamite, which was manufactured in the late 1890s or early 1900s, according to the city.
