House fire in Ogden kills cat

OGDEN — Firefighters rushed to put out a house on fire early this morning.

The fire was reported by a neighbor about 12:19 a.m., the Ogden Fire Department said, at a home at 1071 37th Street.

"The neighbor who called 911 was able to evacuate the occupants and the dog prior to the arrival of fire crews," deputy fire chief Chad Tucker said Tuesday. "Due to the rapid progression of the fire, not all animals were able to be evacuated."

A cat was rescued by firefighters as they went through the burning building. Another cat perished in the fire, Tucker said. Firefighters are investigating the cause, but noted smoke and fire damage to the carport and kitchen area of the home.
