16 former Grizzlies in NHL

WEST VALLEY CITY — The Utah Grizzlies announced that 16 of their former players are on NHL opening-week rosters representing 13 teams.

Ironically, three of the 16 players are members of the New York Islanders

in Mark Streit, Richard Park and Jon Sim, who open their season at New

Jersey on Friday

Goaltender Mike Smith and Freddy Sjostrom opened their seasons against each other this past weekend in Europe for Tampa Bay and New York respectively. Meanwhile Jeff Taffe and the Pittsburgh Penguins were overseas playing against Ottawa.

The former Grizzlies in the NHL are:

• Derek Armstrong: Los Angeles Kings: With Utah during the 1996-97 season.

• Keith Ballard: Florida Panthers: With Utah during the 2004-05 season.

• Todd Bertuzzi: Calgary Flames: With Utah during the 1996-97 season.

• Trevor Daley: Dallas Stars: With Utah during the 2003-04 season.

• Dan Ellis: Nashville Predators: With Utah during the 2003-04 season.

• John Erskine: Washington Capitals: With Utah from 2000-04.

• Antti Miettinen: Minnesota Wild: With Utah during the 2003-04 season.

• Steve Ott: Dallas Stars: With Utah during the 2002-03 season.

• Richard Park: New York Islanders: With Utah during the 1999-2000 season.
