Do you remember that family you once knew? They seemed like they had everything, but then something happened that tore them apart. Jason F. Wright creates such a family in his new novel "Recovering Charles" (Shadow Mountain, 2008).

Reading about a wrecked family could be painful, but Wright does two things to make it bearable.

First, Wright believes in the power of hope — even when his characters do not.
