Three people were arrested early Tuesday in connection with a carjacking in Salt Lake City.

The incident began just before 4 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of Wal-Mart, 350 W. Hope Avenue (1405 South). The victim told police he had just parked his 2007 Ford Focus in the upper portion of the parking structure when he was approached by three men.

One of the men struck the victim in the back with an unknown object, said Salt Lake police spokeswoman Lara Jones. Another suspect brandished a gun and told the driver to back into the car, Jones said. The victim and the three men all got into the vehicle and drove to 400 North and 900 West.

At that point, the victim was tossed out of his own car and the suspects drove off, Jones said.

About 2:15 a.m., South Salt Lake police spotted the stolen vehicle and followed it to an area near 4100 South and 600 East. Alex Valdez, 42, Andrew Ross, 18, and Lamar Christensen, 23, were arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping. A handgun was also found inside the car.
