A man wanted by Salt Lake police in connection with a carjacking also had a charge of assault on a police officer added to his booking sheet after he allegedly kicked the arresting officer in the face.

The incident began Friday at Smith's in the Avenues when a 17-year-old boy had his car taken at knifepoint.

The boy's 2008 Subaru Legacy was spotted a couple of hours later by a Salt Lake officer near 2000 W. North Temple. The officer watched as the man went into the Chateau Motel and then called for backup.

The teen was found hiding in a stranger's room and then struggled with officers as they tried to take him into custody. The boy kicked one officer in the face, according to a police watch log.

Hy Little was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated robbery, assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.
