Quality of GOP has fallen

What does it say about the quality of your party if the platform on which its nominees are running is that they are "mavericks" and go against the grain of that party? It seems to me an admission of just how far the Republican Party has fallen from its perch when it's considered an advantage to be as distanced as possible from its politics.
