The issue of whether the legal drinking age is appropriate is very simple and has nothing to do with alcohol. Is an 18-year-old person an adult?

If they are not adults, then we should take away their adult rights to sign contracts, join the military, carry a concealed firearm and other rights that could permanently alter their own and others' lives. But if they are adults, then they have the right to make their own decisions.
