Why wasn't Mao protested?

It is surprising there was little or no mention of the huge posters of Mao displayed around the city and on Chinese currency during the Olympics. Would anyone consider participating in Olympic events in Germany if they honored Adolf Hitler with huge public portraits and his photo on the currency? According to the Senate Judiciary Committee report, Mao killed an estimated 50 million of his own people. Hitler killed 8 million.
