SANDY — East Jordan School District is having a contest to name the newly formed district.

Name ideas can be submitted online at www.nameourdistrict.com until 5 p.m. Sept. 12.

People can then visit the Web site to vote on their top eight favorite names. Voting ends at 5 p.m. Sept. 26 and is restricted to one vote per person.

The school board will then choose a name out of the eight recommendations.

"A new name will help give the district the life and the identity that it needs," said David Doty, who was appointed just last week as superintendent of East Jordan District.

The district's new name and a logo will be unveiled at a special event scheduled in mid-October. The winner of the naming contest will be awarded several special prizes at the event.

In November, east-side residents voted to split from Jordan district and form their own school district.
