Car show proceeds to benefit hurt Lehi officer

LEHI — Capt. Harold Terry of the Lehi Police Department still has a ways to go in his recovery from the two gunshot wounds to the head he received during a traffic stop in late June.

Terry spent close to a month at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center but has since returned home and is progressing.

"He is doing a lot better," said Blaine Thompson, a friend of Terry. "He has been out around town a little bit and was able to see his guys (fellow officers). He is still not back fully, but he is making progress, which is a good."

Thompson lives next door to the police station and said he has had a great relationship with Terry and many of the other officers in Lehi. So as Terry works along the road to recovery, Thompson and his wife, Jill, the owners of Rockin Hotrod Productions, decided to host a car show this Saturday at Wines Park, 600 N. Center, Lehi, with all the proceeds going to benefit the Terry family.

"Captain Terry has been a friend of mine for over eight years and when we heard he got shot we thought we needed to do something to help his family," Thompson said.

The Thompsons travel throughout the state putting on classic car show events for different celebrations. Their company will donate its time and money in order to help put on the show. Admission is free for the public — with car owners paying an entry fee to display their classic cars or bikes.

Thompson says they expect more than 200 classic vehicles to be on display, with a large outpouring of participation from other law enforcement groups.

"We have a representative from nearly every Utah County police department, and many from Salt Lake as will be coming as well," he said.

Other local businesses have rallied behind the event and shelled out money for food and prizes at the show, and Thompson says that the Terry family has been very appreciative of all the support they have seen within the community since the shooting.

The show will start at 9 a.m. and wrap up around 3 p.m. Admission is free to the public. Entrants are paying $20 per vehicle.

"People should come see some beautiful cars and listen to great music," Thompson said. "It is a good family event and a chance to go back into the past and see some of the classic cars out and about in the community. We just want to raise as much money for his family as we can."
