Salt Lake Bees' Loux honored as PCL pitcher of year
Loux was named the 2008 PCL pitcher of the year by the league's managers and media representatives, marking the first time a player in Salt Lake franchise history has received the annual honor. This is the second award for Loux this week. He was also recently named the top right-handed pitcher on the 2008 All-PCL team.
Loux, 28, is currently fifth in the league with a 3.98 ERA while appearing in 18 games with a team-best 12-6 record for the Bees in 2008. He is also tied for the league lead with 12 wins.
In other Bees' news Wednesday, infielder Matt Brown was activated from the temporary inactive list as he has returned from winning a bronze medal with Team USA in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Brown, 25, appeared in all nine games for Team USA in Beijing, hitting .281 with three doubles, two home runs and a team-high 10 RBIs. He has appeared in 93 games for the Bees in 2008, hitting .326 with 32 doubles, four triples, 21 home runs, 67 RBIs and four stolen bases. He was recently named to the 2008 All-PCL Team after being named PCL Top Star of the 2008 Pacific Coast League All-Star Game. He earned PCL Batter of the Week on April 14, Angels' Minor League Player of the Month in April, and was also selected to participate in the 2008 Triple-A All-Star Home Run Derby.
With the parent-club Los Angeles Angels this season, Loux owns a 3.12 ERA in 8.2 innings of relief spanning four games.
Loux was originally drafted out of Highland High School in Gilbert, Ariz. in the second round of the 1997 draft by the Detroit Tigers. The Rapid City, S.D. native signed with the Angels as a free agent on Nov. 13, 2007.
