Utahns to join relief efforts

Greater Salt Lake Area Chapter Emergency Services Director David Neale said, "According to fleet logistics at American Red Cross National Headquarters, all Emergency Response Vehicles in the state of Utah are being deployed."

In Ogden, two volunteers are getting ready to drive an Emergency Response Vehicle to Texas as soon as tomorrow. Two more disaster trained volunteers from Ogden, Paul and Peggy Mecham, are packing up to fly on Friday. A fifth volunteer from Ogden will team up with a Salt Lake Volunteer and will take a Salt Lake Emergency Response Vehicle as well. Also, Salt Lake City resident and American Red Cross Disaster Officer Jana Sweeny is flying out Friday morning.

Greater Salt Lake Area Chapter CEO, Maxine Margaritis said, "We are here to help and we are always ready to go. It has been a busy and expensive summer for the American Red Cross. Your local Red Cross Chapters are here to help with local community disasters and emergencies and we also help nationwide when needed." Margaritis encourages all Utahns to get to know their local chapters and think about how you can help the Red Cross with donations of your time or resources. She also encourages everyone to take a wide array of preparedness classes and learn to be Red Cross Ready for the day when a disaster hits your neighborhood.
