The latest radio ratings are out for the spring book, and KSL (AM-1160/FM-102.7) is No. 1 again, moving ahead of its nearest competition by nearly 4 percent.

KSL tallied a 9.1 percent audience in the age 12-plus category; runner-up KUBL (FM-93.3) came in at 5.2 percent.

The latest ratings for KSL represent a 2 percent rise in audience share over the spring of 2007, one of KSL's highest in recent years.

Is KSL's simulcast on the FM band finally paying off with extra listeners, or has news become more important to Salt Lake-area listeners? The answer, perhaps, is a little of both.

KRSP (FM-103.5), which like KSL is owned by Bonneville International Corp., moved to third place with a 5.0 share; all-news KNRS (AM-570) slipped to fourth at 4.8 percent.

KODJ (FM-94.1) and KSFI ("FM-100") tied for fifth at 4.6 percent. KSFI's performance was up 0.3 percent from the previous quarter, and KODJ rose 1 percent.

Rounding out the top 10 were: 7. KZHT (4.3); 8. (tie) KBER and KXRK (3.8); and 10. (tie) KJMY and KUUU (3.5).

The remaining stations were: 12. (tie) KENZ and KHTB/KRAR (2.9); 14. KUDD/KUDE (2.3); 15. KKAT (2.2); 16. (tie) KBEE and KOSY (2.0); 18. KBZN (1.6); 19. KFNZ (1.3); 20. (tie) KEGA and KJQN (1.1); 22. KLO-AM (1.0); 23. KYMV (0.8); 24. (tie) KALL-AM and KZNS/KOVO (0.6).

Note that nonsubscribing stations to Arbitron (KSOP, KDYL, KTKK and others) are missing from this list. Also not included on this list are noncommercial stations such as KBYU, KCPW and KUER.

RADIO HAPPENINGS KHTB ("The Blaze") has changed frequencies. It can be found at FM-97.5 in the Salt Lake area and at 105.1 in Utah County. The rock station was formerly on FM-94.9. Rumor is another rock music station may end up on that frequency. For more information on "The Blaze," go to wwwtheblazeonline.com.

KSOP is giving away free gasoline in an on-air contest. Listen to FM-104.3 for details.

Chunga, Chelsea and Cort on KENZ are planning their annual cruise for Feb. 1-8.
