4 Bees players make All-PCL team

The Pacific Coast League Monday announced its 2008 All-PCL Team, featuring Bees infielders Matt Brown and Brandon Wood and right-handed pitchers Jason Bulger and Shane Loux.

The team, consisting of the league's best players at every position including right-handed and left-handed starting pitchers, as well as a relief pitcher, is selected annually by vote of the PCL's field managers and media representatives based on season-long performance.

INDIANS SIZEMORE JOINS 30-30 CLUB: Grady Sizemore hit his 30th home run Monday night, becoming the second Cleveland Indians player to have at least 30 homers and 30 stolen bases in a season.

Joe Carter also accomplished the feat with Cleveland in 1987, when he had 32 homers and 31 steals. Sizemore is the first American League player to join the 30-30 club since Alfonso Soriano did it for Texas in 2005.

Sizemore, who began the day with 34 stolen bases, led off Monday night's game and hit the second pitch from Detroit's Armando Galarraga into the visitors' bullpen at Comerica Park to become the first 30-30 player in the majors this season.

The three-time All-Star added his 31st home run leading off the third inning. It was his fifth multihomer game of the year.

With more than a month left in the season, Sizemore has a chance to become the fifth major league player to reach the 40-40 plateau. Jose Canseco (1988), Barry Bonds (1996), Alex Rodriguez (1998) and Soriano (2006) are the only ones to do it.

Three players joined the 30-30 club last season: Philadelphia's Jimmy Rollins, Cincinnati's Brandon Phillips and the New York Mets' David Wright.

BONDS SEEKS DISMISSAL OF MOST OF CRIMINAL CASE: Barry Bonds is asking a federal judge to throw out most of the government's perjury case against him that charges he lied to a federal grand jury about his alleged steroids use.

In a court filing Monday, lawyers for baseball's home run king argue that many of the charges stem from ambiguous answers to ambiguous questions posed by prosecutors.

Bonds was indicted last November on charges he lied when he told a grand jury in 2003 he didn't knowingly use performance-enhancing drugs. He is charged with 14 counts of making false declarations to a grand jury and one count of obstruction of justice.

Bonds, an unsigned free agent, hit .276 last year with 28 home runs, 66 RBIs and a major league-high 132 walks.

METS PUT MAINE ON DL WITH BONE SPUR: John Maine was put on the 15-day disabled list because of a bone spur in his right shoulder Monday, leaving the Mets without a key starter as they head into September looking to erase the memory of last year's disastrous stretch run.
