WOMEN'S SOCCER: The Utes took No. 21-ranked Wake Forest to overtime in its season-opener Friday, but ultimately fell on the Demon Deacon's home field in Winston-Salem, N.C., by a 2-1 score. Junior midfielder Kelly Isleib (Park City) scored Utah's goal, less than 12 minutes into the game.
Southern Utah
UCR opened the scoring when 2007 Big West Player of the Year Tessa Lennala converted a penalty kick after being brought down in the box by the Thunderbirds' defense in the 17th minute.
Southern Utah was out-shot 12-9 in the contest.
The T-Birds will now have a week off before their next match when they travel to Cal-State Northridge for a game with the Matadors on Aug. 29.

CROSS COUNTRY: Both the men's and women's teams were picked to take second in the Big Sky Conference this season. Northern Arizona is the conference favorite in both polls that came out Friday.
WOMEN'S SOCCER: The Wildcats opened their 2008 regular season Friday afternoon with a 2-1 loss to Seattle University in Ogden. Whitney Smith scored the lone goal for the Wildcats to give WSU a lead in the 52nd lead.
Utah Valley
"This match is another exhibition against a good team and will provide us with a good measuring stick and give us another chance to see where certain players are at," said head coach Brent Anderson. In the match at Weber State, seniors Jenni Clough and Shantae Adams-Yeats both scored goals for Utah Valley.
