KSL News Thursday debunked a cyber rumor saying The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was looking to purchase the popular social network Web site, Facebook.

The rumor started Wednesday on the technology blog of a northern California man and quickly spread, KSL reported. The rumor said the church's genealogy department was trying to buy the site to expand its family history library.

Thursday, an LDS Church spokesman officially put the rumor to rest with a one-sentence statement, KSL reported: "This rumor has no foundation whatsoever."
