Life is a constant battle against weeds, said John Bytheway in his opening address at Brigham Young University's Education Week.

And although he's fought off his fair share of dandelions, the popular youth speaker was referring to spiritual nuisances more than physical ones.

Bytheway drew heavily from the parable of the sower in Matthew 13 in his class "Weed Your Spirit, Grow Your Testimony," attended by young people and parents alike.

"A testimony is something you grow," he said, and strong ones "can endure persecution, they can endure being offended. They can endure the imperfections of others, because they are rooted."
