HENDERSON, Nev. — The annual Mountain West Conference football meetings begin today at the Green Valley Ranch Resort & Spa.

BYU's Bronco Mendenhall and Utah's Kyle Whittingham are scheduled to join the league's seven other head coaches for a meeting this afternoon.

Whittingham said the annual gathering is beneficial.

"It's a great way to get everyone together and make sure we are all on the same page and iron out any issues there may be or that type of thing," Whittingham said.

Before media interviews begin on Monday, the coaches and their wives will attend a Commissioner Dinner. Participating student-athletes, which include Max Hall and Jan Jorgensen of BYU as well as Brian Johnson and Louie Sakoda of Utah, will be treated to dinner at a barbecue restaurant.

By the time the meetings conclude on Tuesday, the annual preseason media poll and all-conference squad will be released.

Editor's note: BYU beat writer Dick Harmon and Utah beat writer Dirk Facer are covering the event for the Deseret News.
