The first six chapters of “Passage of Promise: Last Wish” by Tom Roulstone are so full of emotion and plot, the reader has to wonder if the remaining 24 will deliver the same excitement.

Roulstone wastes no time getting into the conflict-woven details of the novel set in the western United States the late 1800s. Within the first nine paragraphs, the details of the story’s villain have been revealed. By page four, the protagonist’s wife has gone into labor, and by page five, the reader has been introduced to 10 characters.
