Dodgers win without a hit
The Angels' Jered Weaver pitched six hitless innings before he was lifted for a pinch-hitter, then Jose Arredondo pitched the next two innings. Since the Dodgers didn't have to bat in the ninth, the game doesn't qualify as a no-hitter.
It was only the fifth such game since 1900, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
The Dodgers' Chad Billingsley scattered three hits over seven innings, then Jonathan Broxton and Takashi Saito shut out the Angels the last two innings.
Weaver was victimized by his own fielding error with one out in the fifth inning that allowed Matt Kemp to reach first and eventually come around to score on a stolen base, an error and Blake DeWitt's sacrifice fly.
Kemp's spinning squibber rolled to the right of the mound and Weaver rushed toward first base to grab the ball, but bobbled it. The ruling on whether it was a hit or an error was a close one, since Weaver would have had to field the ball cleanly — and first baseman Casey Kotchman was off the bag. But official scorer Don Hartack ruled it an error.
Weaver (7-8) struck out six, walked three and hit a batter in his six innings. Chone Figgins pinch-hit for him in the seventh with two outs and a runner on second, but grounded out.
Billingsley (7-7) struck out seven and walked three.

WHITE SOX 6, CUBS 5: At Chicago, Carlos Quentin hit a tiebreaking homer leading off the bottom of the seventh, closer Bobby Jenks escaped a ninth-inning jam and the White Sox made it two straight over the Cubs. Derrek Lee was 5-for-5 with three RBIs for the Cubs, who've lost seven of 11. Jermaine Dye and Alexei Ramirez also homered for the White Sox. Matt Thornton (4-1), the third of five White Sox relievers, pitched 1 2/3 perfect innings for the win.
YANKEES 3, METS 2: At New York, Andy Pettitte outpitched Johan Santana for his sixth straight win, leading the Yankees past the Mets at rainy Shea Stadium. Robinson Cano delivered a key RBI single off Santana (7-7). Pettitte (9-5) improved to 6-0 with a 3.54 ERA in eight outings since May 17.
BLUE JAYS 9, BRAVES 5: At Toronto, Vernon Wells homered and drove in three runs to help Toronto beat Atlanta. Rod Barajas hit a solo homer and Joe Inglett had two RBIs for Toronto, which got a solid effort from John Parrish in his first start since 2004. Mark Teixeira hit his 16th homer and Gregor Blanco had a career-high four hits for the Braves.
