Macey's, Dan's will stop selling tobacco products
Macey's and Dan's said in a news release that they had decided to discontinue cigarette and tobacco sales in order to remain true to the stores' culture of promoting the health of their employees and the community. Company leaders said they believed that the financial impact would not outweigh the long-term health ramifications.
"While we understand this decision may be difficult for some team members and guests, we feel strongly about doing our part to promote better health," said Dave Wirthlin, president of Dick's Market, Dan's and Macey's.
The decision to stop tobacco sales follows a similar announcement from Dick's Market stores in Davis County.
