LEHI — A cast of young puppeteers enrolled in the Lehi Arts Council School of Puppetry will bring "Alice in Wonderland" to life the next two weekends.

The children range in age from 5 to 11 and have worked since January to create the show, which includes six of the main scenes from the familiar story.

"There's no shrinking," said Nat Reed, the show and school's director. "The kids will all be doing at least two characters, including the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter, the King and Queen of Hearts, the White Rabbit, Alice and the March Hare.

Each youngster made his or her own sculpted head. Reed fashioned the marionette bodies. Parents have helped with the backdrop and simple props.

Reed said the play is aimed at families with children of mixed ages.

Reed plans to make puppet shows a tradition in Lehi and in his life. He'll be producing "A Christmas Carol" in Lehi in December and start another puppetry class in January 2009.

"I'm trying to segue into this," Reed said. "I'm learning a lot. Next time I'll make it easier for the kids to make their own puppets."
